Ladies help

Hello,

I'm wondering if any ladies out there may be able to help me contraception wise?

So I've got 2 children and do not plan any more now. I suffer with bad periods, heavy, terrible cramps and pains and mood swings.

I'm 33 now, and been with my husband about 15 years. I tried a variation of pills when I was around 19 ( non diabetic) and I had terrible headaches ,high blood pressure and cramps. It was suggested because I suffered badly , that the injection etc would be good incase of side effects again.

I was was diagnosed with type 2 in January 2018, and after my daughter was born I've been asked a few times about what contraception I use. Currently we just use condoms . In october and February I had terrible tummy pains which ended in me being in hospital, first time was a ovarian cyst, this time they have no clue what it may be, but I have a scan coming up for a possible hidden hernia.

I have 2 thybroids which were detected in pregnancies also on my ovaries. Anyway he recent gp asked if I thought about a coil, when I looked into it , it said it can cause cysts which obviously I do not want. Also she said it may not stay in due to the thybroids, so what's the point?!

What do you ladies use, I'm so worried about it affecting my glucose levels, and blood pressure? I've heard the pill isn't great as it can muck with hormones and also I don't want anything which may cause weight gain.

Have you and your husband thought about 'fixing' him? I know quite a lot of people who chose this option. No hormones, no side effects, no need to remember every day, very reliable.

I’m passed the age for needing to think about contraception, but as I read it having ruled out hormonal methods (either oral or injected), coils and condoms. @Antje77 beat me to it her post just popped up! I was going to suggest surgical intervention for yourself or hubby. Of course if hubby has it done you won’t need to worry about a temporary rise in your blood sugars post op

Haha actually yes, he has suggested it a few times to be honest. I know we dont want any more, but theres something deep down where I worry and that the option is completely taken away, if that makes sense? Unless that is a common worry and everyone thinks it? X

That’s a really common worry, I thought that myself when I went to the vet to get sorted myself. My peri-menopausal best friend is feeling the same. The potential end of our childbearing years can be a bit emotional, no matter how it comes about. Could you maybe look into storing some sperm, as an insurance policy? And then get him done?

Mine took himself to the Vets after our accidental third and had to sign a waiver! Vasectomies can be reversed so it isn't a final 'cut off' . I think it would seem more important to fix your diabetes and hormonal issues rather than also having to take additional meds to prevent pregnancy.

If the vets isn’t an option you are ready for yet; did the pills cover both progesterone only as well as combined? Progesterone only can be less problematic for many of side effects common in combined pills and help with the painful periods, although a much smaller window of error for late taking etc. I’m assuming just continuing with condoms isn’t a desired choice?

Are they looking into the heavy painful periods? Endometriosis? Adenomyosis? The fibroids needing removing?
