I am type 2, diagnosed recently with a fatty liver. I also know, as from the GP visit for results today, that I have some scarring on my liver too, which is not reversible, according to my doctor.

While I am waiting for further investigation and referral to a specialist - which may take some time in this current climate, I am asking for idea of what may help.

I cant do keto or very low carb due to other health issues, so please dont go down that path

I has anyone else got this, and got any ideas please?

Yes, I have scarring on the liver.... a life time of drugs (ummmm, prescription that is) due to cystic fibrosis is the most likely cause in my case and a few other things thrown in, like diet. Bile duct blockage, gall bladder removed due to stones.

Scarring is in my case, Fibrosis, NASH, so that may be part of your investigations to come?

I have followed very lc or keto and review after review shows no progression, so I'm not sure what you can do, I don't know what you are eating either, but I would assume that if you are not consuming the ****** carbs then it may be that progression could also be halted. I'd imagine that your recent results will be a baseline? A review in a year with a repeat of tests could show whether or not it is progressing or not.

Don't freak out, I've lived with liver disease for 35 yrs.

Hope things turn out well for you.

Lucy - I'm sorry you have something else to worry you, in a year that just seems to keep giving.

I appreciate you were likely a bit surprised by the results from your doctor and the ensuing discussion, but did he give you any indication if this scarring is new, or if it is "just" that they have found it as a result of additional investigations?

I know "just" may suggest I'm trivialising it. I am not. I'm just trying to work out if this could have been in the background for a long time and uncovered by recent, "deeper" testing. If it has been around a while, it could be your good efforts so far have done you a great big favour.

The human body is a marvellous thing, but when it starts getting a bit out of whack, it can be the most enormous worry.

What are your next steps with your medical team?

I have to wait for an appointment with a specialist for further investigation. In the mean time, I need to lose some weight and do more exercise (insert hollow laugh here, given my ME) and attempts for decades to lose weight.

Why oh why does my GP nod wisely, give such advice, then also agree about my ME, then repeat the do more exercise mantra? I swear some GPs have been assimilated by the borg.

I have seen some respondents here using Milk Thstle with some effect for liver problems

I have no personal experience of this, and as with any supplement for health the usual caveat emptor applies.

The other thing I feel you may benefit from is choline, which as a vegetarian you may be missing from your diet, It is an animal product that is essential in cell repairing and autophagy. I am not sure how a vegetarian would compenate for lack of this nutrient since plant based sources are not very bioavailable, but it is in eggs and dairy products which may be acceptable.

I am not a vegatarian. I limit red meat due to financial restraints, and eat tuna when I can afford it. Usually one tin a week.

My mistake. I use pilchards myself as they are cheaper than tuna and suffer less from mercury contamination,

@lucylocket61 - if I recall correctly, @Liam1955 was taking Milk Thistle at one time. I wonder if he might be able to offer you some input.

@Liam1955 - apologies if my bonkers brain mis-remembered on that one.
