Help! I'm petrified of this Coronavirus. I'm type 2 Diabetic, I am overweight. I take Metformin x4 a day, Gliclazide x2 a day and Simvastatin x1 a day. My blood surgars where taken all last week and have come down after changing my medication from 1 to 2 Gliclazide a day. I'm very frightened.

I thought it was just me, I have had to miss my diabetes checkup because my daughter had a temperature so we have already isolated. I really needed the checkup because I am losing control of my sugar levels, low carb and metformin is no longer working I fear.

Pau - As I understand it, "routine" appointments and reviews are to take place over the phone, with bloods being done on a self-sample, delivered to a GP surgery.

My suggestion would be to call whoever does your review and ask if you can have a telephone consultation, to discuss your predicament.

In the meantime, try to keep your diet pretty tight and exercise where you can.

Aswell as being type 2 diabetic, taking tablets for high cholesterol, although hopefully the tablets have this under control, my blood sugars were high ish so the nurse changed my tablets from 1 to 2 a day. I then took my blood sugar testing for a week before and after eating, this had come down which I was very pleased with. I am overweight, have sleep apnea and also severe Anxiety and severe contamination OCD. Because of my OCD I can't go into the GPs surgery this is why I had to take my bloods every day for a week. I need a blood test and blood pressure check but because of my OCD and this virus I can't go into the surgery. This virus is making my extremely anxious, I'm not going out and don't want my mum and son to go out. Sorry if I'm going on but I'm so very frightened.

Stress and anxiety make Blood Glucose rise. So do infections and some medicines including Statins.
Low Carb, low enough - under 50gms per day if you can, works for many/most people (within days or at most a few weeks). Studies show a success rate for T2 remission of around 50% ( Dr David Unwin for his surgery in Stockport, UK) and 60% for Virta Health in the USA.

So if you're doing low carb and testing before each meal and then 2hrs after first bite and managing a 2.0 mmol (or less) rise, then be assured that it is working and so there is no cause for anxiety on that score.

How do you self sample?

Obviously a lot of the detail is still unclear to the unwashed, like you and I, but I imagine it could be something like this video shows: https://monitormyhealth.org.uk/#

If you scroll down the page you'll come to a video lasting a couple of minutes.

I have used MonitorMyHealth for thyroid testing, and used that system. Aside from the lancets being much more "butch" than our blood glucose lancets, it's a similar system, but with bigger samples.

I have an Endo appointment on the 1st May, with a couple of specialist blood tests to be done beforehand. As I understand it, "arrangements" will be made for specialist test, but with a few weeks to go yet, all that could change. FRankly, I foresee my appointment shifting, or a touch base call happening over the phone - especially as I have been trialling a very expensive medication.
