Type 1 When to inject

Hello there Quatrelle - Could you help us a bit? It would be really helpful to know what type of diabetes you have, and what you are injecting once a day?

Type 1 - I put this under that section under the impression it would appear there?

I am on 6 units (I am in France, I hope that measurement is the same as the UK) of Lantus a day, taken, as suggested by my doctor, in the evening. It occurred to me recently that this is a bit open to interpretation, so I was wondering what others’ experience was, hence my question.

Hi there, you may have put the question under the type 1 forum but we cannot assume that you are type 1 especially when many diabetics take other & all sorts of injections and post all over the forum. It may seem irritating but Mods and administrators ask for confirmation for a reason. I take my 6 units of Lantus in the evening but that is down to the fact that I know it keeps me steady between meals without going too low in the early hours of the morning, etc. What are your levels like when taking it in the evening?, that's the key really, if they are fine then why change but if they are not then taking it at other times (or even half in the morning and half in the evening) may help. It really is trial and error and of course you must be guided by your medical team. x
 
Hi. With Lantus you inject at the same every day but it doesn't matter when. BTW as a T1 you would normally be on the Basal/Bolus (two insulins) regime but it may be that your T1 is still progressing and in the honeymoon period. If you find your BS difficult to control then do discuss adding the second (Bolus) insulin which is taken at most meals.
 
Thanks for the replies, and apologies for the confusion caused by my first post.
I am 81 and T1 since October. Unfortunately since then I have been hospitalised three times with a problem with my biliary duct, finally being given the all clear mid-February. Consequently I have been recovering very slowly and wondered what part the insulin injections are playing in my recovery, since I have hardly been 'physically' normal since I started on it.
My BS is fairly stable, no lows, and your replies have given me food for thought.
