Inaccurate blood sugar readings?

Messages

Hi, I have been recently testing my blood sugar, I don't have diabetes from my knowledge and normal BMI.

My fasting glucose yesterday was 5.6. I retested to double check because that would put me in the pre-diabetic range and it was 5.1. Obviously one result means I may be prediabetic and the other means I'm all fine so not sure what to do. I know these monitors are not completely accurate so what do I do with this information? Is it a cause of concern and is it worth continuing to test my blood?

It's not 'obvious' at all. Please take a look at the guidance given on this page,
https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/blood-sugar-level-ranges.html

You can see that the non-diabetic range is higher than your figures.

As Mike has suggested, if you are seriously worried about diabetes, then see a doctor for the appropriate tests.

Yes, those numbers don't look particularly worrisome at present, but if you are concerned, then book an HBA1C- that will be a lot more accurate.

It would take more than 2 fingerstick tests to get an idea if you are at risk or not as there are many things throughout the day that can cause you blood glucose to rise and fall

If you are truly worried the a hba1c carried out by you gp is the way to go

That figure is normal. A breakfast test proves little as the liver's overnight dump of glucose will give varied results. Test 2 hours after a typical meal
