Insulin Question

This is a very specific question but maybe someone has insight. Long term (20+ years) type 2 diabetic. Insulin dependent for last 6 years. Novolog is way too expensive - I can manage some through my insurer but not enough. Novolin is much cheaper - thinking about using both - maybe alternating between them on a daily basis. Any thoughts?

I can't help you with your question, as I've used neither of those insulins. It must be a very frustrating issue.

While this is an international forum, the vast majority of our members are from the UK and Europe, so thankfully most of us don't have experience with having to choose between insulins due to cost. I guess you're in the US?
The downside of this is you may find you won't get many answers, because most of us don't have this problem.
I'm also not sure if Novolog and Novolin are used in the UK under those names.

While I love this forum and it's members, you might get more answers if you post your question on a US based forum as well.

By the way, do you have Dutch ancestors (supposing your family name is Haas )?

Hi. Both of those insulins are described as 'fast-acting' on the web so it may be you could use either and possibly the cheapest as long as it does the job. I'm not sure about swapping each day and you may not need to. I suggest you Google these and read the leaflets to find out the differences. Are you also having a 24 hour insulin as well?

Novolog is a rapid-acting insulin https://www.drugs.com/novolog.html whereas Novolin is medium-acting https://www.drugs.com/mtm/novolin-n.html so they are not exact replacements for each other. Lispro is a generic rapid acting insulin which is likely to be cheaper than Novolog https://www.healthline.com/health-n...heaper-insulin#Why-are-generic-drugs-cheaper? It's best to discuss this with your doctor.

No Dutch - sorry. All German on both sides (mother and father). Fortunately they were not in Germany for the Nazi era - migrated about 30 years before that. My father and uncles all fought for the US. Thanks for replying.
