Hi all

I was diagnosed in September with level of 76, I had a blood test 9 weeks later and it had reduced to 45. Since that last blood test (in December) I think my levels will have reduced further. My sugr app estimates 37 ( I know these aren't that accurate), my readings are rarely above 7.8 after eating ( at one and two hours), pre meals usually in the 4s. My fasting levels are abit higher than normal, usually under 5.4 but sometimes higher but only occasionally above 6.

Anyway, I had diabetic review with a doctor just now who was impressed with my reduction in hba1c and weight loss (2stone). But then said I need to increase my medication from one metformin a day to two.

I'm really surprised at this especially as she said it doesn't really lower blood sugars. I do usually follow the doctors advice but with diabetes it seems different and I'm not sure whether to increase or stick with one.

Did she say why she wanted the metformin increased?
I think she said to improve insulin sensitivity as usually they want people to take as much of the full dose of metformin as they can tolerate.

I do take Metformin even after three and a half years, but please just remember your doctor is there to advise not dictate, it’s totally up to you what you put in your body.
Well done for your progress so far x

Thank you. I'm happy to continue with the metformin as it has some other positive effects on me. But feel abit nervous to increase it to two tablets (due to the side effects ive heard about ) if blood sugars are quite stable. I think I will stick to the one and see how it goes. X

Your insulin sensitivity has really responded to weight loss, congrats.
I've never taken Metformin but it's nice to know it's there as an option when required.
