hi, I am Type 1 Diabetic from last 13 Years and now I am 31 years old. From last year, I have lost almost 7-10 kg weight, current weight is 58kg, height is 155cm and last time my HBA1C was 10. I am taking insuline regular 6+6+4 and NPH 18+14+12(22h). As, I am student and living in hostel so food is a challenge for me. But I am looking for any diet plan which I can follow and it could help me to gain my weight again. I Would really appriciate for your all kind suggestions.
If someone need more detail information to help me, i would be happy to provide.
Thanks

Hi @ikrambashir , and welcome to the forum!
When your blood sugar is running high, your body cannot properly take the nutrients from your food, which causes weight loss. Your hba1c suggests you're running high most of the time. Do you have hypo's as well?

It looks like you are on fixed doses for every meal, so no adjustments to the amount of carbs you're eating or the blood glucose level before your meals, is this right?
Regular insulin isn't used much in the UK (where most of our members live), and it's not the easiest insulin to use because it's kind of slow. May I ask where you live and if other insulins would be available to you?

When you decide to adjust your diet, please be very careful, as your fixed doses may give you unexpected hypo's! Do you have access to as many test strips as you need?
Many of us count the carbs in our meals and base our doses of mealtime insulin on that, but with Regular insulin I think it's not as straight forward.
Let me tag a couple of long time T1's who may or may not have used regular insulin: @Jaylee @Grant_Vicat @Ushthetaff , no idea if you have experience with Regular, but you're the first ones coming to mind who have been around a long time with T1.

Hi @ikrambashir and welcome to the forum. As @Antje77 said, T1s tend to lose weight when they aren't having enough insulin. Do you have a doctor or clinic you can talk to about your levels, as an hba1c of 10 corresponds to an average bg of 13mmol/L or 230mg/dL, which will be damaging your body if you stay at it long term. I suspect strongly that if you get your team to help you get your blood sugar back into normal range then the weight will return.

(Speaking from personal experience, I ran my levels pretty high as a teen, and was underweight then. When I got my first meter in my twenties and improved my blood sugars, the weight went up.)

Good luck.

Hi and welcome ! It’s quite a long time since I was on a “fixed insulin “ type regime, as previously stated it’s not an easy way to be treated , far more restrictive than a Bolus / Basel scenario , I’m not sure where you are , or if the style of treatment is the only one available to you, testing of blood sugars is definitely a good start ! As it gives you vital information as to where you are, unfortunately due to your regime your food is determined by the amount of insulin your taking rather than the other way around , so it can be quite carb restrictive . Low carb or zero carb foots can help especially with hunger and some weight gain , I would definitely suggest talking to your doctors/specialist if you have one , armed with blood sugar readings if you can take them it is a foundation to try and sort out a good way forward ,

The problem at the moment is high blood sugars low carb is more for hunger gain as on fixed doses it’s not able to eat too many carbs as insulin isn’t adjusted , basically the only way to reduce bs on fixed dose regime is not eat carbs once blood sugars reduce carbs are more acceptable , how people managed back when that was the only was was nigh on a miracle.unless theres another way of reducing a blood sugar in of thirteen without increasing insulin,

Wouldn't low carb be dangerous for someone on fixed dose unless they change their dose significantly?
I think the problem is that
1) we are unable to suggest dosage
and
2) @Ushthetaff is right in assuming the only other option is to lower the carbs, but I agree zero carbs would have been unthinkable to me for the reasons you suggest. My whole regime was constructed round a fixed carb (245gms!) diet and 'normally' fixed insulin.

It would be interesting to know how many 'old timers' adjusted the fast-acting without troubling their diabetes team. Once I had a meter, this was my usual action!
