Are all glucose strips the same for BG meters or do you have to buy specific strips for specific meters. My doctor have me a fine test lite machine but can’t find strips for it.
There are n universal testing strips. They are different for different meters.
Often meter manufacturers will give their meters away to hospitals and doctors to hand out because hey make money form their strips.
Having Type 1, I am lucky to have my meter and my strips prescribed but many with type 2 will purchase their own. @Rachox has provided advice on the best meters if you are self funding.
There are also discount codes for when you come to buy more strips - "navii5" and "navii10" will give you 20% off purchases of 5 packs of strips and 25% off 10 packs of strips respectively.
Disclaimer, I haven’t used the discount codes that I have quoted recently so I don’t know if they are still current.
Spirit Healthcare have a meter called the Tee2 + found here:
Some members have got a free Tee2+ by phoning up to order, with a large order of strips they often throw the meter in for free:
Phone number 0800 8815423
With more expensive strips is their Caresens Dual which I currently use, this one has the advantage of glucose and ketone testing in one machine, it’s to be found here:
You can find Fine Test Lite strips from most of the NHS pharmacies for £10 for 50 strips. You can order them online as well for the same cost but some times you need to pay extra postage. I always get it from pharmacy without prescription (because i pay for it). Also my experience with the meter is that its quite accurate for my readings so far, not sure how will it behave on high readings though.
The Home Health Navvii is a no bells and whistles glucose monitor I find it fairly accurate because all meters seem to have to have a similar gauge of accuracy I am no expert but a self funding OAP ! It consistently measures my blood glucose and the strips are the cheapest at the moment .The customer service is good so for me I would say ok Don't forget to add the discount code if buying 5 or 10 pots
