OGTT Results

Hello,

My nephew had an OGTT due to his fasting bs being 5.6.

Results were:

Fasting 5.6
After 1 hour 3.4
After 2 hours 3.3

Does this mean he has reactive hypoglycaemia?

Looks to me that he's nothing more than a tiny bit of leaky liver dawn phenomenon.
That 1 hour result is spectacular, savage 1st phase insulin response.

Hi, I'm not going to give you a definitive answer.
But those are hypoglycaemic levels.

Did he have a two hour OGTT or was it supposed to be an extended OGTT?

If those are the same, when he has a carb laden meal, he should have similar results.

I have read posts similar and it happens to some who have had bariatric surgery.
It's called glucose dumping.
The only other thing I can think of is the phase insulin response is too much for the glucose derived. Or he has a problem with his pancreas, or it might be, hyperinsulinaemia.
But I'm only guessing.

What were his symptoms?
 
He didnt have any symptoms, just a random fasting as far as I know. I do know he had fatty liver. Other than that he 's pretty slim and fit. He's a golf pro.

Hi again, has he an endocrinologist?
I am asking because he will need more investigations and testing.

Hypoglycaemia is found to be a condition where the pancreas is producing too much insulin or a disease of the pancreas. Pancreatitis comes to mind.

I can only advise you to seek a second opinion, if he is having hypoglycaemic episodes, there must be a reason for it!
