Morning everyone

I got diagnosed start of the week and been doing the 16:8 fast (well I’ve done it 3 times)…I have a few questions

1) am I doing it right? I stop eating at 6pm and eat again at 10am the next morning. I ask because that hasn’t felt difficult, I don’t feel too hungry so am I not doing enough hours? Once I break my fast, I eat two meals between 10-6pm and repeat

2) how many calories can I eat in those 8 hours? I think I have less than 1200

3) should I try 5:3 or 23:1

4) can you exercise whilst fasting? I’ve done my peloton daily and been feeling okay

and finally, thank you for reading!

1. if it's working for you then yes you're doing it "right' I tend to have my first "meal" solid foods at about 3-4 pm then a full dinner at about 7 and stop eating by about 8 pm. So I guess I'm following a more 19-5 fast If you;re not hungry then fine.. I use coffee with double cream as my "crutch" during the morning.

2. I'd say you are under-eating and should up your intake in your two meals just keep it as low carb as you can. Calorie restriction can lead to metabolic slowing which is not what you want if you are looking for sustainable weight loss.

3. You can try all any every combo of fasts (just watch out if you are on any medication) I've done up to 7 days with no solids.

4. Seems you can.. I"m not an exercise fan (apart from walking the dog a couple of times a day) but if you like it then go for it.

Thank you so much for replying and sharing. Can I ask what you have in the 7 days when you don’t have any solids?

Coffee or tea with double cream, maybe some 'bone broth" with butter or some consomme, apart from that just water .

Wow just wow that sounds really hard. That’s so impressive! Did you feel much better after the 7 days?

I've done it a few times.. the hardest time is the 48-60 hour period then after that it gets easier.. I was doing it to restart weight loss after a stall which seemed to work and partly to see if I could do it too..
"Better" not sure but certainly didn't feel "worse" ....physically empty might be a better way to describe it..

It really just a matter of practise.. I started off with shorter fasts then built up to longer.
Been intermittent fasting virtually every day since diagnosis. My eating window has shrunk to about 5 hours.

If you think that's hard then you might want to talk to people who only drink water or black tea/coffee while fasting lol The ones who do this tend to limit the fasting to 3 days as according to the science behind intermittent fasting the health benefits max out after 3 days

I've fasted this way many times now but usually 48 hours or so maximum. It was difficult at first but after a few times it got better. I am going to get back to it once I am feeling a bit more myself as I have a bunch of health issues and am wanting to lose some weight and get a bit more mobile before I do any extended fasts again.

I am still fasting but generally it's just a case of not eating til about 1-2pm then not snacking too late at night. That kind of fasting works for me right now.

Spicy food which is too hot. Nasty people who have no idea on your life journey but feel the need to comment and be cruel.
I stop eating around 5pm and don't start again until 11am/12md most days. I never feel hungry a.m so never a problem for me.
