There are various free apps that will alow you to count the carbs in what you eat.

I think you will be quite surprised how many things we think are 'healthy' aren't when it comes to carbs.
Some of the apps allow you to input you target macros - that's the ratio of protein to fats to carbs
I found them very useful when starting out, and like the test strips, once you are in good habits, you can stop using them.
