Ketones and covid

I tested positive yesterday and I’m having a really rubbish time with my sugar levels. I tested half an hour ago and I was 28.6, with trace ketones. I have corrected but I guess it’s going to be like water atm. If the ketones increase do I call 111? Not quite sure what the best thing to do is and I live alone. Thanks

Hi I have had high BG and ketones after every vaccine. Do you have a meter or just the urine test strips? I think it depends also on your symptoms, if you start being sick or feel you can’t catch your breath properly I wouldn’t hesitate. However 28.6 is extremely high in my opinion so if you are worried I would call 111. They will be able to advise on frequency of injections and help with doses.

thank you for your reply.
I didn’t have any issues after my vaccines. Just a little concerned as I’ve checked again and ketones are 1.5

If you were my family I would tell you to call now as ketones and high blood sugar can escalate into symptoms rapidly, one of which is confusion and if you are on your own better to be on the safe side. My nurse has told me one of the main problems for type 1’s with COVID is DKA so don’t risk this.

I’ve given them a call, they seemed more concerned about my covid than the ketones and hi bloods but they’re going to get a doctor to call back soon.
 
If I were in your shoes I would make the call - to get advice anyhow and you are much better to be safe than sorry. Take care and let us know how you get on

Glad to hear that, watch out for further DKA symptoms Ask how much and how often you should be injecting. I had to set an alarm every 2 hours through the night and inject Fiasp. Hope it doesn’t last long for you.

the doctor just called now!! Only about 7 hours later….
Sugars down to 15 this morning which is still high, but I’ll take it over the 26/27 any day! Been advised by 111 to increase my background while I’ve got covid which I will do.

Be very careful at the moment, I ended up doubling my background (obviously gradually!) as well as injecting Fiasp every 2 hrs Take care and I hope it passes soon
 
Hope your ok and your levels are coming down, remember to drink lots of water when high to keep flushing the high sugars through your system, best wishes J
