Interesting, though from what I understand of the article it would require an early diagnosis.

Mind you, there are a few studies out there targeting family members of T1s who might be genetically more susceptible to developing T1, (My daughter offered to go on one, a nasal spray of some sort, but they did a blood test and she didn't have the required genetic markers.)
