"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Another appointment today. I have to get the bandages on my legs changed. These ones have been on for 8 days but they always unravel from the toes very quickly so I have been walking around for about 71/2 days with big flaps of bandage flopping around my toes, only held in place by socks. Another week of this at least and maybe there will be a different kind of stocking I can try.

Yesterday I had a diabetic review which was just about as disappointing as I had expected. Jane is such a nice, friendly young woman but she seems to be very happy with results that I consider to be poor and content to let me keep going at those levels.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with the optician. I had my diabetic retinopathy test a week or so ago and that was fine but although my eyesight is good, things blur when they move and things in the distance are indecipherable because they double up, merged, one above the other. And things close up go out of focus. Disconcerting if you're trying to drive, which is why I have given up driving.

Got measured very precisely for proper made-to-measure stockings this time. They should arrive in a couple of weeks so it will, most likely, be at least one more week after this with the bandages and then see if the new stockings fit - and can be held up.

Saw the optician/opthalmologist this afternoon. He thinks he knows what the problem is but he can't do anything about it. He thinks the problem is caused by (maybe) a tiny aneurism in my right eye but he doesn't think it is serious. He is referring me to another eye specialist to see if he's right and if anything needs to be done. I can see perfectly well really and my actual eyesight is good for my age, it's just a bit of a pain in the neck not being able to focus properly at certain distances and in certain directions. I may have to go about covering my right eye to avoid the problem. Maybe I could wear an eye patch and look like a pirate. I'm sure Em would love that.

Swash buckling buccaneers celebrated "International Talk Like A Pirate Day" on Monday 19th September.
Dang, missed that!
Hmmm! Reminds me of a joke about buccaneers and sundry old salts, that the forum rules and eno's forbid me to post, so I better not. :woot:
I have a feeling I'll find it with a simple google search, will do just that tomorrow when not in bed and on my phone.

The opthalmologist did say that there is a possibility that the problem with my eyes could be arthritis. I didn't know that arthritis can affect the eyes. I've been reading about it and it seems likely that that is what the issue is. I've had "dry eyes" for years and that seems to be an early symptom. Didn't realise before this just how little movement I have in my eyes (up/down/left/right). Maybe the specialist, when I see him, will have some suggestions about what to do about it. At least it doesn't affect my actual eyesight. Not so far, anyway.

Just saw an article on TV, flipping through channels so I have no idea what the programme was, which was saying that they had some evidence that caffeinated coffee (not caffeine drinks or tea) is good for protecting the liver. I've had NAFLD for years, long before I knew about diabetes and in the last year or so, I've been told I have the beginnings of cirrhosis. I don't drink coffee. I used to but rather went off the idea when my husband started drinking decaffeinated coffee. Maybe I should start again.

In fact, I just got Neil to buy me some instant coffee so that I have it for my Welsh friend who really only drinks coffee, so I could take it up. However, for me, it is an acquired taste which I 'd have to acquire again.

Just a pix from my butchers page at facebook.

Doing some family history research and was looking up DIL's family (Em's ancestry chart) only to find that her family is even worse than my own for having the same names. They originate in a fishing village in Fife and there appear to be dozens of people with exactly the same name in the village. The parish registers show page after page where there is only one male name (first and surname) for births, marriages, and burials. So inconsiderate!

It's approaching 9 o'clock and Em has not long gone to get to school on time. She came early in the morning yesterday - turns out Neil knew from a phone call after I had gone back to bed but I only knew when I could hear her footsteps, Her mum was exhausted and in pain after doing a night shift in the laundry so her dad brought her to me on his way to work, to get her fed and organised for school. That was fine and I said that she could come at that time any morning it was needed. So this morning she came again. It wasn't essential but she decided to come to see me. That meant I coud give her breakfast, which she refuses to eat at home but whatever time of day she comes to me, she's ready for some crispy bacon and (sometimes) an egg, or even a cheese omelette. I believe that when she is at school, she needs at least some breakfast if she is to keep her brain tuned in all morning.

Putting the grocery order away that came just before nine, and droppen a tin of sardines,I bent down to pick it up and kept on going. I hit my head on the way down and ended up on the floor. I could not get up, so as my partner was not at home, I pressed the help button on my ememgency pendant.

Got through to my first contact and asked for some help, skipped the second , then it dialled 000 for the emergeny service, I asked for the ambulance give them my details and where I lived.

My contact, and the ambo's arrived about 10 minutes later.

They got me out of the cupboard corner where I ended up and got me back up into a chair. No bones broken as I could move my arms and legs. I have a couple of big bumps on my head where I hit my and barked my left elbow which was oozing a bit of blood. My ribs copped a flogging on what I fell,

They took me the emegency dept. at the base hospital because of the whack on the head.

A quick triage and I was in a bed, being checked by nurse and doctor, they found nothing wrong with blood tests etc. just some bruising around my ribs which is still sore this morning as it must be close to my colon. I was allowed to go home just after 12:00 pm.

I had a lay down after I got home and slept for a fair while.

I could not have to be too crook as I got a couple of pix of the paramedics.

Well, that was quite the unlucky adventure, @Riva_Roxaban .
I'm very happy you had the emergency pendant with you so they could save you from your cupboard within minutes, and also happy it looks like it's only cuts and bruises, uncomfortable as they might be.

They look very friendly, best thing to have when feeling rough!

Now take care please and leave any dropped tins of sardines for the first visitor to pick up, tinned sardines do a lot better than yourself laying in that cupboard corner.

Fingers crossed your bruises won't be bothering you too much today.

That's an extreme method to have a visit from 2 attractive girls!

Hope you are feeling a lot better now and that the bruising subsides quickly. Even though it was only 10 minutes, it must still have been pretty awful to be stuck on the cupboards floor until assistance arrived. Do take care. You are too valuable to take too many risks.

That was a scary adventure! So glad to hear you’re ok and back at home now, even if you are a bit battered.
Those paramedics look really cheerful, they must have been a very welcome sight. Hope they picked up the sardines for you as well as checking you over.
