Hello everyone,

Need your kind help – I'm looking for a new Health Insurance as I just came off my partners Corporate one.
So far, the THREATS I’m getting from all the insurers are – ‘anything you might have can be attributed to your Diabetes (even if I get hit by a car!) and therefore will not be covered by the insurer.’

I’m absolutely terrified with the prospect of paying £200 p/m and even then not being able to claim for anything as I am a Diabetic.

Anyone had a better experience with insurers?

Are there any Health Insurances that cover people with Diabetes?

Please help!

I had self funded health insurance with BUPA. My diabetes was not an issues - they paid up on physio, etc.
I found the additional cost to cover cancer was the biggest hurdle and when my treatment was completed I terminated the insurance.

Where abouts are you in the world? If you’re in the UK you really don’t need any health insurance to cover your diabetes, everything you essentially need is free on the NHS

Edited to correct my mistake in assuming OP was T2 - I still think the question is pertinent to T1 also

The OP has Type 1.
As I do and had health insurance for non diabetes related health issues (such as removal of a cancerous growth and physio)/

Hi. Yes I have the same problem with my BUPA insurance. My diabetes was a pre-existing condition when I started my policy and excluded from cover. This could exclude cover on many conditions. Not much you can do about it I'm afraid.

My apologies I didn’t read properly, I have edited my post but still would like to know if you do you need insurance for T1 in the UK? I’m T2 on my husband’s work insurance but can’t claim for anything connected to my diabetes as it was a pre existing condition. I have claimed in the past for none related conditions including a 5 day emergency stay in hospital where there wasn’t a private room I got £100 per night.

In my experience, I have not needed health insurance to cover Type 1 related treatment.
I have read of some people with Type 1 who have attended private appointments to get a second opinion or to get access to treatment that they are not entitled to (such as a pump) on the NHS. But this would not be covered by health insurance.
If you are referring to what we need to keep ourselves alive (insulin, test strips, etc.) this is all available on the NHS.
