Hi I have had type 2 diabetes for around 6 years now and take 2000mg sukkarto, 10mg dapaglifozin and gliclazide 80mg tablets per day. I still have to get up at least 3 times a night to go to the loo and wondered if this is normal. Thanks very much.

I get up once or twice a night, but that's mainly because I drink the most water in the evening before bed. You get up to wee, but how much volume is there? Could be that after years of frequent urination your bladder gets its signals mixed up a little. How are things in the daytime? I had to take bladder training to stop going every 20 to 30 minutes in the daytime, with a pelvic-specialised therapist. Came down to just holding it a little longer and stretching it gradually, until the signals didn't get botched anymore. Not saying that that's the issue, but there's more than one reason to have to get up nights. Like @catinahat said, might be the meds you're on. Anything else you're taking that might make kidneys work overtime?

Good luck sussing this out, just be sure it doesn't have to be the T2 per se.

Certainly the Dapagliflozin will encourage micturation. The sukkarto is simply Metformin ER. The glic only increases insulin release so should help reduce the nightly excursions.

One trick I discovered by accident that helped me was to invest in an air filter gizmo. It sits by the bed and blows filtered air across the bed. This has enabled me to sleep all night with few probs. I was on Dapa too until recently and it was giving me problems including this one. I am also on a water tablet which does the same. but I take it in the morning so as to get it over with before night.

I take a cranberry tablet every morning as I retain fluid and get carpal tunnel, also use it to deter wee infections and seems to work. The funny thing is if I drink too much tea I am up a few times a night! Yet if I just drink water I get the opposite. Guessing that tea is a natural diuretic.
