I’ve been newly diagnosed with type 2 I haven’t yet taken the medication, I wanted to try diet first, I don’t know if I am making the right decision, I just don’t want to be on these meds for life.
But I have a number of things against me achieving the reversal that I want, I’m hypothyroid, I’m on blood pressure meds, and a chemo med, I can’t exercise at the moment because of problems with my legs hips and low spine, affecting the nerves in my feet, and legs, how much is that caused by diabetes I don’t know
But I’m scared of permanent nerve damaged and wondered if I’d see an improvement if I took the meds ?
 
Hopefully, you can agree a plan with your GP and team?
What are you eating, and are you testing your blood sugar before and 2 hrs after eating to check how you are reacting to carbs and how much you will need to adjust your diet?
 
I also have hypothyroidism and have had it since my teens and am now in my late 70's, I’m on blood pressure meds also I started to watch my diet when first diagnosed but did take metformin which was prescribed for me and I lost my weight but did not loose the Diabetes ...as it is a progressive illness I am now on insulin plus meds, I hope your journey is a good one keep smiling every day is a new one xxx

Metformin doesn't move diabetic mountains, it just increases your insulin sensitivity a smidge, and makes your liver dump less glucose... It doesn't do anything about what you eat. Exercise is overrated. I certainly couldn't lift so much as a finger when first diagnosed; I was a wreck, and I thought it was all due to my hypothyroidism. Turns out I was a long-time diabetic with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Yeah, that'll do it. It's diet that put me in remission, so if that's what you want to try first, you can. I don't know if you're chemo-only or also have/had radiation therapy, but after such a treatment you're supposed to eat lots of protein to help your body recover, which fits perfectly with a low carb diet. Also, many tumors feed on sugar (a PET scan doesn't use a sugar solution for the heck of it), so odds are that cutting carbs'll also help in that regard, somewhat.

Metformin, either way, isn't for life. It's not something that'll give you withdrawal or anything when you stop taking it, so it is an option should you want to, but it doesn't sound like you do. There's enough going on in your life as it is, and the potential side effects wouldn't do you any favours when you're trying to get over cancer. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help avoid metformin all together.
