Freestyle Libre 2 to become real time continuous glucose monitor in UK from mid July 2023

In case the news hasn't spread to this forum yet...

From mid-July 2023, following a software update to Librelink, the Freestyle Libre 2 sensor will become a real time continuous glucose monitor giving minute-by-minute readings on a compatible smartphone.

Apparently, the updated Librelink will also allow glucose readings to be sent to compatible smartwatches (presumably without the need to use non-Abbott authorised third party apps).

Abbott should be communicating this to Libre 2 users over coming weeks.

This was posted in another diabetes forum. The source was a Facebook post from someone linked with Abbott, apparently...

I suspect this is only minor software tweak as the sensor already appears to do this, hence Shuggah's performance. Fingers crossed

I just updated the app and yes I now get up to the minute glucose readings on the home page of the app, without scanning. Unfortunately I had to delete the app and re-download it (on Abbott’s advice) as after the update it kept crashing. Which means unfortunately my data in the app is deleted, but still available via Libre view.
My question is, I have an iPhone and Apple Watch, does anyone know how to get glucose readings to appear automatically on your watch?

Are you in the UK? No update showing in my app store yet.

OK, have now updated. Shuggah is still working too. I'm sure some clever person will work out how to negate the need for a third party app sooner or later. For now, I am happy with this incremental gain.

It seems the way to update is via the FS Libre website (on your phone). Update then delete & re-download the app. It does seem that all of my data has been lost though. Abbott ought to have avoided this. Anyone know how to retrieve the lost data?

My husbands phone has it but not mine yet. Still, next new sensor not due for over a week, so got time.

You can’t retrieve it into the app but you can view it in Libre View:

I downloaded Shuggah, but stopped it starting to scan as it flashed up a warning, can’t remember the exact wording but it implied that if I used Shuggah to scan then communication with the Libre app would be stopped. Can you only use one or the other?

And it’s come up and I’ve done it. Had to re download the app so I too have lost the data on my phone grrr! All there on Libre Linc of course. Was worried I was going to have to put a new sensor on but it restarted this one phew! Of course you lose the 24hr TIR which is my little obsession. I remember when using the L3 that was the one thing I missed. But perhaps it will make me less obsessed.

It’s working after deleting and re installing app, can you still scan with phone or is it all constant reading maybe a stupid question but hey that’s me . Right now it feels strange having to just open app and there’s the number ,like every other development will soon become normal , how did we ever survive years ago with no personal bs testing ,
as a note using iPhone 14 no issue with update other than having to reinstall app, oh and having to press the forgot password thing , old age doesn’t come alone

I didn't change any other settings, except to update to the 'non-scan' LibreLink, & Shuggah is working as before.

Ok, so much for it becoming a CGM 9 times out of 10 I’m getting this when I open the app! Even with my phone sitting on the sofa next to the arm I have the sensor on. Just having to scan it every time. Have you had any better luck @Mike88?

@Ushthetaff just click on the waves on the top right and you can then scan.
@Rachox had this just the once but I had gone out to make a cup of tea and left it behind. I just scanned to reactivate.

I wish! It worked perfectly for the first couple of hours after I updated. Now every time I open the app I have to scan, just like before the update! :(

Is this available on Android?
My understanding is that it is only the iPhone version that is a full CGM at the moment.

I have the updated app on Android. Just waiting for new sensor to go on, next Wednesday<sigh>.

General point: I don't see a display of BG other than in the main screen. Juggluco for example shows it on the status bar at all times, and on the lock screen too, so no need to even unlock the phone to check. This has proved extremely convenient. I reckon I shall miss this, or maybe stick with Juggluco which has served well for 2 years or so.

Yes @barrym I too can only see it when I go into the app. Was hoping it would be on the Lock Screen.
Would it not start your old sensor. I just scanned mine and it worked. Just picked up where I’d left off.
