I gave 20 units on my pump by mistake

Hi Robert,

This has happened to me... accidently bolused myself something like 30 units instead of 4 by putting it into units instead of grams of carbs..

What is your pump saying in regards to 'insulin on board' ?

Good thing is that it's lunchtime so you can have a free lunch today, I did mine before bedtime so had to sit up until 2 am to see me through the night...

Thanks for your quick reply. I guess I'm reassured this has happened to other people but I am slightly concerned at how easily I did this.

At the moment my IOB s 17.27. Right now my BG is 5.4 but heading down.

I was also concerned how easily it happened to me - do you have much glucose at hand ?

I'd have some slower release carbs as well like a sandwich, and just keep testing with a finger prick test. Don't rely on a cgm if you use one for accurate readings atm.
Let us know how you're doing. Do you have any one with you?

How are you getting on Robert ?

Fine thank you. I just had three cans of coke and some baking someone brought in, then had lunch (fishcakes, salad and potato wedges) and didn't give any more insulin. It's been no lower than 5.2 since this happened and no higher than 7.6.

I've still got 5.09 units on board but I don't think anything crazy is going to happen now.

I am not familiar with the T-slim but all pumps I have used allow you to set a maximum dose.
I recommend checking this out in case it happens again. It has stopped me making a similar mistake in the past.

Yes, I noticed my maximum dose was set to 25. I think the most I've given intentionally was about 13, so I could make it 15.

Glad your ok - have made this error twice now on the Tandem, first time I didn't realise until I checked IOB after feeling a bit weird and second time I knew straight away i'd put the wrong calculation in, my max bolus is now set at 10 units from doing this. Thank goodness for CGM's and cakes is all I can say...

A maximum of 15 units sounds much safer than 25 units.
My max dose is 10 units. As I find anything more than 5 units is best given as a combi or extended bolus, I have never gone beyond that ... even for pizza. And, if I make a mistake on combi/extended bolus, I have time to cancel it.
