Does heat affect your blood sugar level?

Hi all,

I was doing pretty well with my blood sugar level at my last HBa1c (think that's right) check - but this time my levels have gone back almost to where I started.

I know I don't always eat well, but this seems ridiculous as it is virtually pre medication level. I am going to see my nurse (although I have to wait a month to see them!).

However, I did notice I felt especially bad during the hot sticky weather. Can environment have an influence on your readings?

Also menopausal if that makes a difference!

Thanks

Yes, as a Type1 who is dependent on insulin I find I need quite a bit less when its hot - some need more some need less but yes it can definitely change things.

Well I haven't quite reached that point yet but yes I believe it can also have an effect, I will have to wait a bit longer til i find out what happens at that point.

Obviously I'm not a T2, so it may differ a bit, but yes temperature and hormones can affect many diabetics

There are many many things that can affect your BG, heat being one of them but everyone reacts differently, mine reduce a bit in hot weather, and menopause well, at the beginning of my menopause it was like herding cats no 2 days were alike, even tried and tested meals threw out strange numbers, either higher or a good bit lower. Mind you I have PCOS and my former GP told me that after menopause my diabetes would be easier to manage as my hormones etc would be less out of whack than before menopause, and he was right!
