Sweeteners

So is it worth testing again, trial and error? What would be a good number to expect please?

It's always good to keep testing, trial and error.
At the moment, you're seeing higher numbers than you'd want, it's a work in progress. Any improvement you see is good!

I've had a look at your old thread from before you were on gliclazide: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/high-hba1c.193710/
Your numbers are definitely a lot better than they were when you posted that thread! :)
On that thread, it's been mentioned you might want to look into different types of diabetes, considering your age (diagnosed in your early 30's if your age on the forum is correct) and very high numbers at the time.

Hi @Donna85

I was on Gliclizide for a while a few years ago and the leaflet advice is to always take it about 20 minutes before your meal, I used to take it 20 minutes before breakfast and 20 minutes before dinner in the evening.

You say you may be safe from hypos at the moment but be careful as they can happen quite quickly if your carbs aren’t enough for the dose or you do any exercise etc. This is the reason I eventually came off them with the help of my GP as I was having hypos and having to “feed” the hypos with carbs. You will find your optimal carb level with testing before and after. It’s a while for me but I think I was about 15g carbs a meal but if I went below that I would hypo so that’s when I dropped them and went full keto

Yes I agree, I was looking through my numbers on meter from when I was testing back in January/Feb time
They are alot lower than they were. I have to stick at it this time. They tested me for other things and thyroid etc due to the hair and weight loss. All came back fine. I've noticed that's just something that comes with the diabetes for me. I will keep adjusting the carbs and see where it leads. I've got a fasted number of 10.7 this morning. Lowest so far!! I'm going to cut the sweeteners as much as possible for now and again, see what happens. I'll get my hba1c result on Wednesday so will have a better idea. Thank you again everyone!

I'm taking 1 a day and usually before dinner. Day 5 of 7 today so I've lots of things still to test. I've never had lower than a 7.7 and it did go back up after that but will keep a very close eye on it. Great news you were able to come off them, well done!

Very early days for the meds, I was on max dose of 160mg twice a day in the very beginning and was seeing my best lows at 9 10ish (I’m trying to recall because it was 14 yrs ago) it took about 3 weeks for them to drop into the 5 6s then a couple of weeks later I was going too low and had my dose halfed by GP then halfed again a few months later as I continued to reduce carbs.

So it may just be your body is still adjusting, and your liver is still dumping all the stored glucose in there

Hi everyone, so..long story short, I've been diagnosed a few years now. I've been very ignorant about having type 2, I go through phases of being good ...and phases of not at all. I've never had good numbers though. It didn't effect me so I didn't bother, or so I thought, until last week. Optician found a bleed in eye. Not huge, but enuf to scare me into reality. I'm 38. Id like to keep my vision, so working hard now. My question is about sweeteners. I've been finger prick testing 7 times a day at request of GP.. I'm only on day 4 of 7 and although the numbers are mostly heading in the right direction (still very high) I'm wondering how much sweeteners is effecting us all. I really struggle with drinking water, really struggle..so what options do I have? Should I just be sucking it up given the way things are or can I still have no added sugar flavoured drinks such as tea and dilute..with sweeteners and are there any specific ones to avoid? Thanks in advance!
I’m Type 1 so slightly different! Unfortunately I’m very sensitive to any amount of carbs and even one cup of instant coffee with a splash of milk sends my BG’s rising Advice I offer is have a chat with a diabetes dietician

There's been a delay in appointments, due to staffing issues and being unable to attend the one I had booked due to son being unwell.. anyhow..I've picked my hba1c results up. Last time I had it checked I believe was near on a year ago. Was 119 then... Now it's 124 . Not seeing anyone again now until Jan, so see what happens then x
