Hi
My husband is type 2 diabetic and his HbA1c is much higher than what is expected is current rate 9.6% , is it possible to lower this and maintain it at the recommended level of 6.5% . Does anyone have any experience of this ?

If he goes on a low carb diet what happens to his insulin levels ? Will these come down?
Should I be getting help from his doctor?

Forum members please be aware @Ann Scott husband is T2 on insulin so going low carb right away may not be the best advice.

Hi @Ann Scott & welcome to the forum :)

If you can give a bit more information about the medication your husband is on and the type of foods he eats etc, does he test before & after meals to see what the rise is from what he’s eaten? The more information you feel happy to share will help forum members share their best advice & experiences with you.

In the meantime if you scroll down in my signature you will find some links to information that may be useful to you

Hi
My husband is currently on Humulin and takes 36 before breakfast and 24 in an evening, he is also on the Libre 2 sensor .
7 years ago he suffered cardiac failure and has some brain injury which I feel makes managing his diabetes difficult for him , he is active and walks daily.
I am thinking if I take some time off work and then if he goes on a low carb diet I would be around to manage any hypos and his insulin levels on a daily basis, once his level of Hb1A is at a better level we would managed it with diet and hopefully less insulin

That sound like a plan, but do involve your health care provider - just to stay safe!
