Insulin units for Takeaway Pizza

I use the app Carbs and Cals, can everyone confirm for me please if the glucose effect at the bottom of the screen relates to how many units of insulin I would need for that particular food item?

The number at the bottom is the amount of carbs for one serving.
The first one has 122 grams of carbs for a serving of 450 grams weight.
The second one has 103 grams of carbs for a serving of 370 grams weight.

Do you use an insulin to carbs (I:C) ratio?
Assuming you do, you'll need to know the weight of the serving you are eating and use your ratio to calculate your dose.
If you eat a smaller portion than the serving mentioned, your dose should be adjusted accordingly.

Mind, pizza is notorious with diabetics to be difficult to dose for, so don't get disheartened if even a perfectly calculated dose doesn't result in perfect blood glucose. If you make notes of your dose, how much pizza you had, and how it affected your bg, you might be able to adjust based on experience next time you'll have pizza.

If its one of the more well known pizza places (eg pizza hut, dominos, pizza express etc, some of the smaller ones probably do as well) they often have all the nutritional info on their websites for how many carbs are in each of their pizzas
 
I find pizza doesn’t adhere to any rules, the same can be said for pasta obviously this is personal to me it’s taken quite a bit of experimenting to find my correct dose of insulin ! Correct timing of taking my insulin which with pasta and pizza is quite important for me ,typical example if I eat spaghetti bolognaise ( which I love btw ) I have to take my insulin between 2 and three hours after I’ve eaten it . It’s just another example of how hard it can be to find out how your insulin works with different foods it takes time with a lot of experimenting but that’s what diabetes is all about .
 
I'd suggest you split your dose too, definitely don't take the full amount at the start of the meal - that quantity of carbs will take longer to digest than the insulin will take to become active (so you may well end up going low after eating the pizza, eating more carbs to treat that, then going high later on as the rest of the pizza's carbs come into play). In addition to the quantity of carbs, the fat (cheese) content will slow digestion even more.

The only time in my experience I can consistently handle pizza within reasonable expectations on a rare occasion is at 2am, a carb count on the box.
Bolus up front for the carb content of the half. With a late bolus & a vodka & Diet Coke to accompany.. which happens after I get home from a gig with no other options. Hand on heart with a sensor confirming. Never out of range apart from the odd drift briefly poking its nose into 10mmol?
