"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Postings and days getting a bit muddled now so summary
B: are omelette, small yoghurt to add my own seed mix to and a few (4-6) berries. Maybe some smoked salmon /ham/cheese
L: salad, they do a nice nicoise with tuna or burger no bun, (soup of it's cold (always!) but nice small portions.
Wine but only 1 glass (it's included!)
D: prawns, cod, cheese. Yesterday.Tonight soup, tuna, cheese. Wine.

Daytimes we get walking tours included but they dotn go far distance but do take couple hours so we get cold. Hubby has warmed with hot chocolate or gluhwein. I carry ginger tea with me.

Today was an 08:00 start so I wore even more layers, 2 pairs of trousers and 7 top layer, then my coat. With phone in pocket, flask in another etc, when I dropped my glove I found I was too wrapped to be able to bend to pick it up!!!

Temptations all around and we've been given candied nuts and spiced biscuits so have had some of them, but only a few.

I have a sore throat and achy so luckily don't fancy most of the food from stalls. Think I'm going to duck out of tomorrow's tour and stay in bed.. or get up for breakfast, then go back to bed...

Breakfast was a kind of stew made with the pork, onion, aubergine and tomatillos with some added stock. I've decided that I do like tomatillos and they are not just under ripe red tomatoes.

Chicken for later on - already cooked so it will be a salad of some sort.

I saw some new vegetables on Amazon. One of them I was pretty sure I knew, but had never had. It was advertised as "garden eggs". I saw something like it growing in Israel but never had the chance to taste. I think it is just a small white aubergine (ie eggplant). I bought some anyway and will try them. Actually I will probably have to share them with Alistair because there are a lot in the bag. The other was sold as a vegetable but I can't remember what it was called. It is pale green and looks very pear like. I think it can be used for salads but I'll have to hunt through my Amazon orders to find out what it is.

EDIT: They are Chow Chows. A kind of squash.

Had the last of the fish pie for breakfast. I don't think pre-frozen potato is much good to me - I get very hungry after eating it, although quite full at the time and I've put back on all the weight I lost last week! Pity, I do like potatoes.

2nd meal is some strips of pork with some aubergine slices, some onion slices (about 1/3 of a small onion) and some tomatillos - just to try them. It's in the oven just now so I'll have that fairly soon.

Renal consultant has recommended a new medication for me and our Health Centre phoned today and said they'd send out a prescription for it. Never heard of it before. It's called Dapagliflozin but the pharmacist who called said there are a few potential side effects that don't sound very pleasant. Still, they might not happen. They also want me to try coming off of Bumetanide, which is a diuretic, because it can damage kidneys. At present I appear to have CKD stage 4. I could do without that.
I've been taking dapagliflozin for (I think) almost a year now, and haven't had any bad side effects - just the opposite, I felt much better quite soon after starting it. It seems to work - while I wish I didn't have to use medications I am grateful for the improvement in quality of life. Hope you have a good experience with it and it works for you too x

@jpscloud
In a previous post you mentioned being on a "flozin". I think you have to be careful when going low carb on those, so only reduce carbs slowly and consult your doctor who may want to adjust dose as you lower carbs. There is a risk of dka if you suddenly drastically reduce carbs
(Note I've been rapped across knuckles for saying this before as I can't provide sources and links but I've been around here long enough now to say I'm not a doctor so please double check with your gp, read the flozin packet for side effects and take care xx)
Yes you are right, I am careful with it and monitor blood sugar meticulously. I had one wobbly moment in the summer when I'd been stuck for 7 hours in a traffic jam on the M5 and couldn't eat or access my BG monitor because the traffic kept crawling, so as soon as I could I stopped and bought an orange juice and some crisps which sorted things out.

I'm including some carbs and my overnight fasting BG is around 6 or 7 - I test two or three times in the night when I get up to pee!

Edit:

During my carnivore month and at times of extended fasting or going very low carb, I stopped taking dapagliflozin. My GP surgery had a medicine review with me and I discussed that with them - they were fine with it but said also watch out if you have flu or illness when you can't eat or keep anything down, and don't take a tablet at those times. My personal need for it is because I tend to have lengthy periods of denial when I binge on carbs non-stop - dapagliflozin helps to level out the effects on blood sugar.

Bacon, sausage, 2 eggs and a half slice of toast for breakfast, self-sabotaged with some rich tea biscuits but only had four, I know, only... but that is a win for me. BG not badly affected, still under 8.

For full disclosure, I don't really test when I'm off the wagon but from the times I have done, I know it goes to 10 and beyond - it would be a lot higher than that if I wasn't taking meds.

For tea I cooked a big slow cooker pot of beef mince with bay leaves, celery salt, old bay seasoning and onion salt. When the beef was cooked I added a shredded sweetheat cabbage and let that cook down with the mince. Had a small bowl of that with leftover parsnip mash and it was gorgeous.

Hope everyone is doing well! x

Edit: Sweetheart cabbage, not sweetheat!!

Busy day yesterday with family coming over and picking up Cooper to take him home, he will be missed. What a lovely sunny day it was too - makes all the difference.
Breakfast kefir followed by scrambled eggs
Lunch cheese, nuts and LC crackers followed by two squares of 90%chocolate
Dinner latish Waitrose ready meal curry ( chicken tikka masala) and low carb wrap. Tried to not overeat the sauce but not too bad a rise.
@jpscloud I love sweetheart cabbage must look for some.

Very late breakfast. I sat down to have a cup of tea at about 10.00 and promptly fell asleep and woke at about noon to a cup of cold tea. So just had some ham and gruyere cheese and then took the pills I should have taken much earlier.

2nd meal will be something with the pre-cooked chicken - either leek and chicken soup or a chicken and chayote curry. Might just make both - there's enough chicken there - and make my choice later on.

Hi everyone,
Catching up again. Back from a very Christmassy trip to Strasbourg. Was a fun week. Lots and lots of walking.Did have a couple of vin chaud which did not spike me interestingly. I think it is less sweet than gluhwein. There was quite a lot of ham and cheese involved as well but was not tempted by the sweet stuff, hurray. Hubby on the other hand found a totally gluten free bakery, so has probably had a years worth of eclairs, cheesecake and really good bread!
Looking after BIL dog this week, so again will be plenty of walking. We were wondering how she would be with the Christmas tree but she has shown no interest in it.
Hope everyone is ok. Has anyone heard from @LivingLightly? I hope you can shake your bug off @MrsA2 to enjoy the rest of your cruise.Hope you are feeling better @RosemaryJackson.

Thanks @sueh21, getting there slowly. My son and daughter-in-law are here!! He said for 22 days. I said, not long enough. Haven't eaten yet today but as I can't go to our lunch club Christmas lunch, my friend is bringing it home to me! It's obviously not the same but I've missed 2 through ill health so it's better than nothing. I'm very grateful. It's a beautiful day, sunny and not too cold and my washing is blowing on the line. Have a great day everyone.

The last of the leek and chicken soup from yesterday for breakfast. The chicken and chayote squash curry will got in the freezer for another time.

2nd meal will be some cold pork with salad.

The chayote squash wasn't anything to write home about. Raw in salad it was tasteless and I don't think it has done much for the curry, but we'll see if it develops into anything worthwhile by being kept for a while. Shan't bother with any more of them. Yesterday I ordered a large chunk of fore-rib of beef to be picked up on Thursday. A rather large chunk - 4 ribs worth. I will roast it, on the bone, for Christmas and have lots of lovely roast beef left for serving cold. Hugo can have the bones when I've cut the meat from them. Or I suppose I could make broth with them.

It was very wet and windy yesterday and our water pressure dropped again, but didn't go off this time. Today is calm but still very wet and dark. Now that the water is back on, pretty well full on, I can do some washing, if I can get my legs and back to co-operate. They suffered a bit yesterday, along with my arms and shoulders when I helped Neil to fold 3 quilt covers which I had washed and dried but couldn't fold on my own. Pathetic!

Hi all, used up leftovers and had some off-piste carbs but not too much.

I had a lovely experience in the pharmacy when I went to collect a prescription today, a very sweet little old lady who I've seen there a couple of times before (I'm kind of old myself but this lady is in her eighties I think) gave me a lovely compliment. I'd bought a new top, a grey checked shirt with a subtle gold thread in the check and wasn't too sure about how it looked but when this lady turned around from the counter she said "Oh you look lovely in that top, isn't it gorgeous?" I'm never sure about my appearance, I'm not naturally good at putting clothes together or even choosing ones that suit me so I was overwhelmed by her kindness. I thanked her and told her she'd made my day

It really did make my day, and I paid the smiles forward in Aldi afterwards!

Hope everyone is doing well today xx

I've wondered about Cheyote, I'll be interested to hear if it improves with a day or two in the curry. It's totally not pathetic to be struggling with physical things! I'm coming to terms with my limitations now, I know my energy is very low and although religiously following low carb and losing a few stones would definitely help, I'm in the acceptance phase and just do what I can when I can. Deep cleaning has to happen in small stages these days - heck even regular cleaning has to! x

Amazing how time disappears when you are enjoying yourself!
3 days missed posts.
However I've been most good in the circumstances.
B: poached eggs on sliced ham and cheese.
L: one day was a bunless burger, another was just salad. Today was an open grilled sandwich so I just ate the top. Always a single glass wine.
Avoided temptation in the markets, very busy.
D: meat or fish with veg. Cheese for afters.
Too much wine.

Nearly everyone is coughing and sniffing. Results of very cold outside and slow walking around towns then air con AND sweating heat in public rooms.

Heading home tomorrow. More when I get back.

Thanks @shelley262 , it's taking a while but I will get there. I've had a head cold as well as Bronchitis so nights have been mostly awake coughing and not being able to breathe. The anti-biotics haven't helped much this time so I'm thinking it's viral. Lucky me! Just have to wait. Have a nice day all. :)
Take good care of yourself. It does sound as though it is viral if the antibiotics are not helping and if you do also have a cold. Still worth taking the antibiotics though, I should think, to deal with any secondary infections that might arise. Does sleeping in a sitting position help with your breathing? I find that it does. Plenty of rest, keeping warm and plenty of fluids would be my response.

@RosemaryJackson take care there seem to be so many nasty viruses around atm and unfortunately they seem to take a long time to recover from.
@MrsA2 hope you don't arrive home with a virus -_sounds like a lot of germ sharing happening on your river cruise - sounds like a lovely trip around the Christmas markets and we'll done on resisting the naughty temptations.
@sueh21 welcome back from your lovely hols in Strasbourg and enjoy your doggy time - I find my steps double when Cooper stays over but he gone home now. Probably good as our autistic son who we care for hadn't been well with an infected and perforated ear. One issue we are having is sourcing some specialist ear drops Dr feels would help it dry out and heal but getting run around from his chemists why is it so difficult to get certain drugs!
Talking of Drs we at long last after 13 weeks got back a certificate signed by Gp . Now I've posted the claim to travel insurance company I wonder how long that will take to decide on! . Still good news is that husband is recovering well and we may be able to plan another holiday when he gets the all clear - crossing fingers we get our cash back to enable us to go!
@Annb the beef you've ordered sounds delicious.
@jpscloud hope you've had a good day today.
@Antje77 well done on keeping up the swimming very impressive in winter!
