Hi @claire51074 , and welcome,

Just check the carbs section, you can ignore the rest, as most carbs will turn to glucose once ingested. Should you have been reading US websites and books on nutrition, they don't count the fibre separately so they have to subtract those from the carb total, but in the UK all that's already sorted and you don't need to calculate anything. Nutritional value is often given per 100 grams, but whatever this is, is also giving numbers for one portion, that being one fourth of the pack. So it's 53 grams of carbs per 100 grams of ovenbaked-whatever-it-is, and a fourth of the package, meaning one portion, would be 45 grams. No idea what you consider a portion, as more often than not, calculated portions are often ridiculously small and unrealistic, (in the Netherlands anyway, don't know about where you are), but if you want to guesstimate it, about half of what ends up on your plate, is carbs, if it's 53 grams per 100. To me, that would be an unacceptable amount unless I only have 10 grams of something. It's all a bit relative to the portion size, after all. A bit of sauce can be high in carbs, but if you only have a drop or two for flavour, it won't do much harm. Have it by the bucket-full and there's a problem. So is a portion truly a fourth of the package, and would that amount of carbs be acceptable to you, or do you need to rethink your menu? Stuff to figure out, but you don't have to do it all overnight.

No idea if that helps, do say so if it doesn't, as others could probably explain it better, anyway! ;)
Jo
