"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

No - not that. I only have black socks because that's all I can get to go over the huge bandages on my legs and feet. Maybe beginning to get used to less Metformin. Or maybe not.
Maybe it's the coffee. I have been drinking more coffee than tea recently - it's easier then making a pot of tea with loose leaves (to avoid the spike I get when using tea bags). At first I was pretty sure that using coffee with caffeine wasn't affecting my BG as much as decaffeinated coffee but having just seen a thread about someone finding that coffee causes some change in BG levels, I wonder if that is the issue with me. OK - next experiment - no coffee, just tea to drink (or tap water, if I can't be bothered to make a pot of tea) and I'll see what happens.

Breakfast: Scrambled eggs on RyVita and a cup of tea.

2nd meal: Still avoiding vegetables. It will have to be something out of the freezer because the Co-op was pretty well empty again when Neil went for the shopping. It will be a matter of closing my eyes and reaching in for something that feels the right shape. Of course, if it turns out to be vegetables, I'll have to put it back and try again.

Different colour socks?
Sometimes BG behaves in such a way that you really start to think that the reason is the color of the socks :hilarious: I don't know at all why in the last 2 weeks I suddenly began to need twice as much insulin, despite the fact that the amount of carbohydrates decreased. I had to increase the basal by 4 units and the bolus by a third. For now, I blame everything on the fact that I was pushing my period for a trip with the help of hormones.

B: 2 scrambled eggs
Opthalmology appointment. Good news, the problem in my good eye was only temporary (and scary) and has resolved. My bad eye same, but will try a slight change in drops to see if that helps any..
L: at a garden centre, ham and 2 fried eggs. Gave 85% of the accompanying chips to hubby. Very very good ham and nice eggs.
D: roast chicken with roasted courgettes. Boys had rice as well. Yoghurt with berries. 2 sqs 85% chocolate

Raspberries and cream for breakfast.

I think Neil got me some beef mince this morning when he went shopping, so I'll do something with that.

It seems I also have CKD and should be changing my diet to protect my kidneys. Wondering if I've done any harm trying to do lchf. GP seems to be comfortable with the massive crash in my kidney function this year - maybe he just doesn't care.

Well - one or other of my "things" is going to get me sooner or later, so probably not worth bothering about.

Just back from a quiz. Ate way too many crisps. The bowls just kept getting refilled so I carried on eating, and eating and eating.
The actual food was sandwiches which I'd been prewarned about so I took cheese and a greek salad. However I was too full of crisps to really enjoy it.
Walked home but still feeling bloated and over full.

Going to another tomorrow. Tips please on how not to keep reaching out for salty snacks

I always carry a wee box of mixed nuts in my bag so when out and about if a snack is needed I always have something to nibble on and nobody bats an eyelid.

Luckily at tonight's quiz ther were no crisps at the table. I'd taken olives which we picked at, then it was splendid sharing platter of 3 cheese, pate , ham and bits. Carb eaters had plenty of bread. There was a lot of wine drunk!

Earlier I the day I'd had greek salad and cheese for breakfast (left from last nignt), chicken and corned beef for lunch amd a much needed long nap on the afternoon. There had been a morning walk too..

A good day for exercise and low carb in an enjoyable social setting

Very quiet on here! Are you all away?

Today
B: 75g weight of corned beef
Early yoga
Cwc
L: stilton
Quick trip to local product fair. Small piece new cheese from local farm, very expensive 85% chocolate, pack of snacking dried ginger with chilli, 2 cheese scones for hubby and a birthday card. That was £20 gone !
D: cooked chicken made into a curry with broccoli, courgette and yoghurt. Small coffee ice cream.

Trying to wean myself off my ice cream habit so topped 1 very small scoop with chopped nuts and 85% chocolate. Very satisfying and lower carb than usual portion.

Then an unexpected dash to try sort a problem with a mentally ill relative. At least it didn't take long. The Eurovision songs sounded better on the radio than watching on the TV!

Still around but it’s veggie planting time so busy with the garden as it’s also weed growth spurt time! Also played pickleball for a couple of hours. A good Victoria Day weekend so far.
Breakfast, scrambled egg, yogurt and raspberries
Lunch, grilled cheese sandwich with some of the last of last years pesto, really tasty Gruyere, sauerkraut and ham
Dinner bowl of chilli with low carb version of bay biscuits. All from the freezer but still good.
A couple of glasses of wine while I watch the hockey playoffs.

Busy and exhausting day yesterday so no energy even to post on here. Brain's a bit cobwebby as well. But you're right, this thread has been fairly quiet for some time now. Summer time is busy for everyone, I guess.

Nothing but one glass of water and currently one cup of tea, so far, but will have to think about breakfast soon. After that, I'll think about 2nd meal. Not sure what to do about food at the moment. I'm a bit concerned that the lchf diet I've been trying to stick to, has exacerbated the damage to my kidneys, done, it seems by the diuretics that doctors have had me on for years. Some thought is going to have to go into this. As usual, of course, no advice from medics and waiting to see the dietician who admits she knows little about diabetes, but maybe she knows about CKD.

Decided, on a whim, to use a tin of black beans I had in the larder. I made a stew with it and some "safe" vegetables (carrot and celery) flavoured with garlic, lemon and some spices (no salt) and yoghurt, then topped a couple of tablespoons of that with a couple of fried eggs. I thought it would be fairly filling, but am already getting hungry so there will have to be a 2nd meal today. Probably a chicken breast, in some form.

Checked the fridge and there were vegetables to be used up - some going a bit soft - so decided I'd better do something with them. I've chopped up some courgettes and left them in lemon juice and oil. Will do something with those to go with the poached chicken breast. Also decided to make a variation on the "Orange soup" that someone here (sorry I can't remember who) suggested a few days ago. It was a butternut squash, a couple of sweet potatoes, a couple of carrots and an onion - all roasted off in the oven, Scraped the flesh out of the sweet potatoes and the seeds and flesh from the squash. Put the whole lot, including the onion and carrots, into the blender with some veg stock and orange juice then finished it with some coconut oil. Actually tastes a bit like Heinz tomato soup (not surprising - I gather that that soup is as much carrot as it is tomato). So that's a soup for the freezer for the next time I have lunchtime guests.

EDIT: Not the squash seeds though.

I'll stir fry the courgettes and the poached chicken for my 2nd meal today - when I can muster some more energy to do it.

It's fairly quiet in the main thread too, the one where we're not allowed to chat so as you say maybe the time of year.

Chunk of cheese before a stroll with a friend. We usually walk faster and further but she's injured so we mainly sat on a bench by the duck pond. Was still good for the soul though.

L: 3 eggs omelette with buttered courgettes and cheese.

Dancing afternoon. Good 2 hours dancing then a break for afternoon tea. I'd taken olives cheese and nuts in the hope they keep me restrained. Mostly worked, had half a scone with a smear of jam and a big dollop of clotted cream.
There was a glass of fizz to drink, supplied by me to celebrate and upcoming birthday.
Then another 45 minutes dancing.

Back home had an avocado with dressing and a chocolate pot with cream. Thinking I'm hungry and need meat, but don't have anything handy so trying to ignore it.

More of the black bean stew for breakfast, but this time, no eggs. They didn't really add much yesterday.

2nd meal will be butter chicken with some of the chickpea pasta (according to the manufacturer, chickpea rice, but it's really a kind of orzo). The chicken with courgettes left me feeling really bloated and nauseous for some reason, but the spices should help with that today.

Breakfast: more of the spicy chicken.

Today, I must cook the rest of the pack of chicken breast - c**k-a-leekie soup - and use some minced beef that will go out of date if I don't, so minced beef ragout will be for today's 2nd meal. There will be quite a lot left over so will either have that for 2 meals a day until it is finished, or put some in the freezer.

After posting yesterday I gave in and had a nut bar at about 9 p.m.

Then fasted through until 12:30 today. Mondays are easy to ignore food until after I've done exercise class and tea with friends.

L: 3 sausages and some coleslaw

Mild gardening followed by holiday brochure reading.

7pm out with friends. Chicken fajita (left the tortillas), glass white wine. Mint tea with a mini brownie.

Was telling friends about how I never feel full while eating, only several hours later, and true enough came home at 10 still feeling hungry. Now at midnight having eaten nothing more, i feel very very full.

The above was yesterday's post, which somehow didn't!

Today (Tuesday)
Breakfast, leftover walnut and mushroom loaf.
Busy morning of errands and lc baking . Bites of nuts to keep me going.

L: Green salad and mint tea with friends in pub

Later afternoon. Soem hm lc granola bars (made earlier). Should have eaten a better more satisfying lunch

D: steak, few olives and cucumber and tomato. 2 good spoonfuls clotted cream with added chopped nuts and chocolate. Very rich!. Leftover Prosecco

Breakfast was the beef ragout that I made yesterday. I didn't eat it yesterday though. I completely lost track of time due to various people coming in unexpectedly and didn't get around to making my meal until about 7.30 pm - too late to cook the ragout so I just took enough of the mince to make a couple of burgers and had that, then put the ragout on and cooked it for about 3 hours. It's very good for breakfast. The remainder will go into the freezer with the soup that I made yesterday.

2nd meal will be a kind of "green stew". Kind of like the French way of cooking peas with onions and lettuce but will use up some rocket leaves and some kohl rabi leaves and stems instead of lettuce. Frozen peas are very useful for this kind of dish, but I'm going to have to use frozen onions as well - I used my last onion on the ragout.

EDIT: I shouldn't have put the kohl rabi stems in. Despite the long cooking, they were still tough. Well, I'll know next time. I think I'll put the remaining stew through the blender and then strain out all the tough bits. Took some frozen spicy chicken drumsticks out of the freezer for tomorrow. We've reached the stage of no more space in the freezer, again.
