"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Because I was hungry, just had 2 digestive biscuits with a cup of coffee. I've been on my feet since 6 am to get this place fit for visitors. Up at 4 am but I fell asleep again in the chair under the influence of my pain killers. Right now my back and legs are killing me so I'm sitting for a while. BG was already high so took a really big dose of insulin. I am waiting until my friends come for a soup-and-a-roll brunch. Rolls for them, not me. I asked Neil to get some rolls for me and he came back with packets of huge baps, rather than the normal Scottish breakfast rolls which I had imagined. I don't think anyone will manage a whole one of these monsters.

For me, brunch will be a bowl of MIL's broth. I've also made a pot of leek and potato soup for vegetarians (not vegan because I made it with butter and cream).

Later will have some more of the pork ragout from a day or so back.

The soup went down well. Still lots of both left though. I persuaded Alistair to take home something over a litre of the leek and potato, but there's still a litre left to go in the freezer. The broth will keep for a day or so, and that will come in handy. Those huge rolls are in the freezer already - people only wanted half so shared one between two. One lady brought along some home grown rocket and another, some home grown rhubarb. Gave the rhubarb to Alistair. He tells me that it only very rarely appears in the local shops and even then is very expensive, so he was very happy to get it. I'll use the rocket in another soup tomorrow (really don't like it in salad).

Morning all. @Annb, I'm going to try your chocolate cream for Monday's pensioner's lunch. I'm often stumped for puddings and I'm fed up with s/f jelly. I find them a bit insipid these days. I'll have a practice today.
You've just reminded me that I intended to have whipped cream with some strawberries for breakfast. Forgot and had MIL's broth instead. Might make it anyway and keep for tomorrow's breakfast. Must also make some strawberry butter with the rest of the punnet.

2nd meal will be chicken in a spiced veggie gravy.

BG is consistently high despite large doses of insulin. I can only think it is because my Metformin has been reduced but the Diabetes Nurse asked me to try it for 2 weeks so I suppose I should keep going.

Morning all. Beautiful day yesterday so I went out in the garden. I've neglected it and the grape hyancinths have multiplied and covered half the garden so have started to dig them out. No mean task I can tell you! In between digging (the soil is so hard) I have been sorting the flower pots out. I need to really declutter out there so today that's where I will be. I have a leg of lamb that will be slow cooked for when I finish. Hope you all have a lovely day.

Breakfast: cold slices from a small shoulder of lamb - slow cooked yesterday, followed by strawberry cream with 2 digestive biscuits. BG was already higher than I wanted, so large dose of insulin to try to cover it. Coffee.

2nd meal: there's some chicken in spiced gravy to be used up. I was going to put some vegetables with it but insides are playing up so am avoiding vegetables again for a while. The broth was very good, but really vegetable heavy and it has had its results!

Morning all. I overdid it yesterday with the gardening, so I hurt everywhere. Why is it I can't accept that I am old and can't do the things I used to do with ease?? My friend's husband is now my gardener and he did all the heavy work, but digging up those pesky grape hyacinths did the damage. My little garden now looks soooo much better and has given me the incentive not to neglect it again. But I'll definitely take it steadier now. Hope you all have a great week.

Hug for the aches and pains - good feeling though isn't it seeing a result in the garden. We've been working on ours for last couple of weeks - including fence and shed painting - and it's starting to look much better - needs rain though for the plants.
Had chicken roast yesterday so plan to have leftovers next day or so. A bit unimaginative as often do so - with salad one day and then using last bits cooked with some veg and made into a frittata with eggs added ,which can also be eaten cold - so leftovers from leftovers!

BG remains too high despite what would have been ridiculously large doses of insulin a few weeks ago. So far, I've only had coffee - luckily that hasn't put BG up any higher. I'm trying to fill up space in my tum which is complaining that there is
a food shortage. Had to take 4 large doses of Humalog yesterday and even then, during the night BG went up to around 16, according to my Libre.

Eggs for breakfast, I think, with absolutely no carbs.

2nd meal will have to be cold meat (lamb, ham) and maybe some hard boiled egg. Surely I can fill up on that without too much harm.

it was a great feeling! and all the aches and pains worth it.

We can't buy Jerusalem artichokes (or any artichokes for that matter) in Stornoway so I've been trying to get them online - to no avail - too far away from producers for them to deliver. So, because both Neil and I want to tr them, I've ordered some plants and will try to grow them in a large container. Neil says he'll plant them. Obviously we won't get any this year, but who knows, maybe next year?

BG has come down into the 6's now. What have I done differently to the last few days? Nothing that I am aware of. So annoying not to be able to identify the reason(s).

Popped into town for a few errands, then some paperwork at home.
