Bit confused... but doesnt take much with me!

I have been through hell and back ten fold in the last year so have been a bit illusive with coming on here. I had my hba1c today and wee sample and gp is bleating on about statins, but said if I dont want to fine, I will take the latter I think. I have had a result regarding the cholesterol but have asked for a further breakdown as this is what was sent to me. I also didnt fast and wonder if I should have, whether that would have made a clearer picture in my result. I know there are lots of conversations on cholesterol on here and I am of the opinion I dont want to venture down the route of meds. My cholesterol level has gone down I think but with out looking at my previous results, I cannot be 100% sure. Dont women of a certain age need cholesterol and does it not go up with on lchf/Keto which is what I follow. Dreading my hba1c result due to the stress I have endured over the last year. I dont know what else I could do to lower the 6.5 as I work out regular and I am not overweight now. No history of heart disease in the family. Guess I may just be unlucky. Do the levels look bad bearing in mind I dont know the full break down yet.

Cholesterol level is 6.5 mmol/l
Hdl (good fats) level is 1.8 mmol/L
QRISK score is 12.29 % :nailbiting:
Same here...Ive told GPS over 17 years..NO WAY.

Me too now some doctor has put 20mg of Atorvastatin onto my prescription ! Not taking them ...have got the dreaded Diabetic review on Monday I have had enough going on this year without another battle with her .

I had my diabetic review on Monday actually got a lovely DN for a change
glad you got on well with your DN at review. Rather than feeling like having to battle would be lot more useful if supported instead giving information to help make informed choices rather than just ranting on "must x y z"

Makes a whole world of difference ..there are enough battles in life .

You can lower your Qrisk score by moving house to a more affluent area or even just around the corner. Don't live near a large area of social housing either as this increases your %risk. Qrisk doesn't take into account whether you are a well-controlled diabetic or if your HbA1c is sky high, if you tick the box then it will increase your risk.

My experience with QRisk scores...

2 years ago my GP sent my QRisk score to me. It was high. He suggested statins. I said No Thanks.

14-18 years ago I had atrial fibrillation and was at different times under consultant cardiologists at 3 different hospitals. I also saw several resident doctors at those hospitals during this time. When I received the QRisk score from my GP I went online and input my details as at 14 and 18 years ago. Both readings were much higher than the newer one (by around 10 whole points), yet no cardiac doctor ever suggested or even mentioned statins to me. Well, they were the heart experts and if they didn't think statins would help I am not sure why my GP thinks he knows better. It's just another box ticked for him and potentially a little more money.
