Health professionals often recommend oats as a healthy breakfast, but they don’t work for me. About 10 years ago, steel-cut oats were my favorite morning meal. After tracking my food closely, I learned that oats caused a significant spike in my blood glucose, so I stopped eating them altogether.7.0 today but so happy waking up in my own bed and looking forward to a low carb breakfast to start the day.
I cannot believe why healthcare professionals and my ill informed family believe a bowl of porridge is the right food to set me up for the day. Sadly I only have to look at a bowl of porridge and my blood sugar spikes but after eating one it shoots up to over 12 mmols and stays there taking over 3.5 hours to come back down to anything like an acceptable level. All of this is with proper oats porridge without sugar or honey or sweetners. Remainder of the day is not much better with food options and I am so grateful for the science of the CGM to help me understand what is good or bad for me and not have to rely on common beliefs.
