Switched from Levemir to Toujeo and having issues.

It's been 7 days since moving to Toujeo when i was told it was being discontinued.

I am running very high blood sugar after 7pm and a normal dose of Novorapid doesn't work as it should after 7pm.
I was told to take 15 units of Toujeo (10% less) which i take at 11.30pm
Before this i was splitting my levemir 9 units at 12pm and 8 units at 12 midnight.

I had similar issues with Lantus before i moved off it to levemir.
I found out it wasn't lasting 24 hours. And im near positive this is the same thing happening with Toujeo.

What on earth am i supposed to do. My management has been so much better on levemir now it's been up ended and im back to where i was when i was on lantus.

Anyone got some insight?

Hi @aaronjunited1
I have no insight as i'm waiting in the wings...
I will be changing from levemir but ended up with quite alot of it in stock as when i heard it was being discontinued i over ordered so i could change when i'm ready.

I have chosen tresiba as its supposed to last 36 hours as i feared changing to one big dose instead of 2 smaller ones.

As i'm MDI i tinker alot with my insulin and carbs and find it very easy to alter my carb intake and increase my exercise regime to get level.
I would not recommend this approach as i've been doing this MDI for over 50 years and i do make mistakes.

Its the 1 big jab instead of 2 that i worry about.

I can only wish you luck and hope you get where you used to be and please do post your experiences as it can help others like us.

Toujeo is a very long lasting insulin, up to 36 hours but I think you need to build it up over time. It is also a more concentrated insulin so possibly why you are on a lesser dose
I have been using it for a year (today) and it took me a few weeks to get beniit from it, I aso use Trurapi
as the Bolus
I cannot compare to other insulin types as they are the only one's I have used

Thanks for your response Tony.

They claim it lasts 36 hours. But this isn't the case with me on toujeo or even lantus before that (24hrs)

I get about 20 hours out of one dose. Which means i run high when that isn't in my system anymore.

My DN has asked me to increase dose to 17. But i really dont understand. Does upping the dose increase the length of time it stays in the body? I don't think this is how insulin works. If i up the dose I'm increasing the chance of hypo as i already established the dose i need on a weaker strength insulin. At least this is my understanding based on my own experience.

Yes reducing dose by 10% was because its a stronger insulin that levemir. So surely upping the dose is going to be too much and cause a hypo.

Hardto say but i may be a gradual increase, when I first started with it I was on 4 units a day built up over a long time to 46 units so yours may be a gradual increase to get used to the change ?
as beore I do use Trurapi too (5 times a day)
