"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Just to use up the last of things, I had some RyVita with ham and cheese for breakfast.

Expecting a visitor this morning and, of course, I have nothing home made to have with coffee or tea. Shop made shortbread will have to do.

2nd meal will be pasta with dhal and some chopped salad.

Porridge for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch and chicken with vegetables for tea.

My dwarf french beans are producing a little harvest every few days which is a good thing because the runner and climbing french beans are a way off yet. I'm using up my shop bought frozen broad beans ready to hopefully have a few to freeze when mine are ready to pick. As always I wish I had more! Well, always except for runner beans which last year threatened to take over my life :hilarious:

I'm not sure if the brassicas I currently have in my containers will survive the cabbage root fly attacks this year. It's a new one for me, but then I have only just started growing a lot of brassicas, so still learning. I have some small seedlings of swedes and brussels sprouts that should be ok to crop in the winter, and I can sow a few more multi head cauliflower to still get a bit of a crop. I will need to really step up my brassica protection program for them though! Insect mesh and soil covers should do it. I would prefer not to use insect mesh because then hoverflies and other predators are also excluded and can't get at the aphids... sigh.

Porridge for breakfast, cottage cheese salad for lunch and chicken with vegetables for tea.

Coolish day, perfect for me to get plenty done in the garden as long as my energy levels allow.

Cool enough today for a cooked breakfast so will be roasting a few tomatoes in olive oil to have with poached egg.
I also have panda flour baking plans - as the brisk cool wind should blow the hot air out today. Need to top up the freezer with LC bread and muffins.
Salad for lunch - my salad leaves are perking up well again they didn't like the extreme heat.
Dinner will be cheeseburger in a low carb brioche bun with salads.

A bit of cheddar and some ham for breakfast. I was going to have the last of the pasta with dhal, but I forgot. Might hav e that for lunch - I don't expect the little bit of ham and cheese I had to carry me through the day.

Later meal will be cottage cheese salad - as long as Neil can get them in the shops today.

Serious back pain today - very difficult moving around and I had great trouble getting showered this morning. Also pretty bad yesterday and I hoped it would get better overnight. No such luck!

I changed plans this morning - it's a "significant" day for me, and I wasn't going to do anything special but then saw that we have cooler days for a couple more so decided to take today off and do garden work tomorrow and Saturday.

I took myself off to Bridgemere garden centre, had a lovely time wandering around not buying aggressivly priced plants but I did buy some garden clogs (cheaper than Amazon and better quality) and some nice fruit from the fruit and veg stand. I didn't get lunch there so had a late lunch at 3pm when I got home, two crumpets, some strawberries, an apricot and a nectarine.

There were some flowers waiting for me when I got back, how lovely!

My nematodes also arrived so I'm just treating the containers for cabbage root fly now. Hopefully that will sort them out, and I decided not to use fine mesh to cover the plants - I'll use some butterfly netting which will still allow aphid predators in. I'll cover the soil in a week or two in the brassica containers, so if there's another emergence of cabbage root fly in August they won't be able to get to the roots.

For tea I am going to have chicken skewers and stir fry vegetables with a bit of rice as a treat, then some strawberries with cream for afters. I'll have to go and water the garden afterwards to burn the sugars off, like you @shelley262 I fill watering cans and walk around the garden with them, it takes ages but it's great exercise and I love to check on every plant as I go.

Pleased you had some treats on your significant day and a surprise flowers delivery. Enjoy the rest of your special day.

Hope your back pain eases thinking of you.

I hope you enjoyed your "significant day".

Usual fishy Friday food planned smoked trout salad for lunch and salmon for Dinner. Quick keto granola first soon for breakfast as busy morning ahead.
Pleased to hear @Annb that you are not as sore today - hope that your pain continues to lessen.

My runner beans are a puzzle this year - they have grown well and lots of flowers but only a few beans so far! So looked online to find that other gardeners runner beans have struggled with the early heat. I've seen bees on them so not a pollination issue.Advice is keep watering and may improve with later sets of flowers. But only five beans so far - my dwarf beans so much more productive may only do dwarf ones next year.
Breakfast planning some scrambled eggs with extra yolks left over from when used three egg whites for a low carb Panda Flour protein loaf.
Lunch smoked trout salad and curry for dinner - may add a few of my precious beans to the curry.

Porridge for breakfast, cottage cheese salad for lunch and chicken with garlic mushrooms and vegetables for tea.

I'm making the garlic mushrooms with some chestnut mushrooms I bought at the vegetable stand the other day, and my home grown elephant garlic in the slow cooker with butter. It smells amazing!

I haven't checked my runner beans for setting yet, I'll go and have a look in a minute. Mine are covered in flowers too.

Just had some crackers with ham for breakfast. Dosed for it, but BG still went too high. Back down to 5.4 now though so all's well. Trouble is, I'm hungry again and it will go back up if I eat something.

2nd meal will be chickpea pasta with the veggie mixture I made yesterday to go with the steak - mushroom, broccoli and onion steamed in orange juice. Might break up some feta into it as well.

lots of flowers but only a few beans so far!
Yep exactly the same! I hadn't noticed but there are great long flower stems with empty stalks where the beans should have set. There are a few, and maybe this cooler spell will have more setting. Maybe there won't be a great runner bean abundance of 2026 though after all!

Let's hope we have a surprise late harvest! Maybe weather will eventually cool down - I suppose runner beans have traditionally done well in our usually more temperate climate but we may need different varieties in future that do better in hotter temps.

Planning a cooked breakfast today again but looking like for the week ahead we will be back to limiting cooking to keep the heat down. Salads for rest of today served with smoked trout for lunch and steak for dinner.
I've got a couple of pots sown recently with different lettuce leaves which are starting to sprout well - we use a lot of greenery especially in summer - so need to keep up with production!
