OMNIPOD 5 & WHAT INSULINS CAN I USE. ANY HELP PLEASE

Can anyone help I’m going on Omnipod 5 pump next week & just been told I will be using Novo Rapid in the pump.

This scares me so much as I used to be on Novo Rapid 4 years ago & it was a nightmare

If I’d Bolas for lunch say 11.30am for a meal @ 12pm my Levels would not Drop until about 1hour before my evening meal. It was the same for all my meals (injections) my levels not dropping until the last minute just before the next injection (meal) was due

That’s why my consultant put on Lyumjev which worked brilliantly

But as I’ve said before a new team at my Hosp want me on a pump.

If anyone in the UK is on Omnipod 5 using a different insulin to Novo Rapid, could you let me know its name please & (I know everybody’s different) but how it works (time wise) for a Bolas (meal) injection.

So I can talk to the Hosp team & try to get something sorted out

Or if anybody in UK is using Lyumjev or FASP in there Omnipod 5 any HELP, Please would be appreciated.

I need to go on a pump but the thought of going back on Novo Rapid & the way my life was while on it worries me

Tried talking to the pump team it was the 2nd time I’ve met them but they don’t seem to want to know just wanted to get you out of the door & get the next one in & then the next one after that
 
If you google it I think you’ll be able to find the insulins the Omnipod Five uses, but I suspect your hospital team have limited access.
Are there any other HCL pumps they could provide?
 
It was my choice to go on Omnipod as there is no tubing & want to go the pump it’s just the insulin the Hosp want me to use & the memories of what my life was like the last time I used Novo Rapid
 
I am using novorapid in an omnipod, only because they won't give me human insulins. Was emptying a pump every 24hrs and bg was all over.
Hba1c did drop from 54 to 45 after getting the omnipod, though i was injecting 28u of humilin i daily to try and gain control. Consultant noticed the serious amount of insulin used and hard work micro managing. Got given a suppression test which explained the severe insulin resistance. Now taking 3g metformin extended release a day and pump will last 2days max. Ratios were 1u to 0.9g carbs prior to the metformin, now on 1u to 1.6g carbs. Correction has gone from 1u to drop me 0.75mmol to 1u to drop 1.4mmol.
Fiasp will not work, tried it before and used 400u a day for 60g carbs, may as well have injected saline solution.

thank you for the help if no luck talking to the nurses again will talk to the Consultant and ask about the test you Mentioned
to see if that's why Novo Rapid does not work very well on me
 
By the looks of a quick google search some people do use Fiasp or Lyumjev in the Omnipod 5, however, it hasn’t been tested by the company and the algorithm is not set up properly for use of the ultra acting insulins which could potentially be a risk as the pump may not be accurate in calculating what insulin you have on board. It’s a risk your team are likely not willing to take and I personally wouldn’t want to myself either.

Some people can change what pumps they use if they aren’t happy with their initial choice, I was one of those people who couldn’t use Novorapid for the same reason as you, I used it again recently and still had the same issue as before. Tubed pumps aren’t as bad as people think they are, perhaps it’s something you may need to consider in order to use the faster acting insulins.

from what little I could see your right people do use Fiasp or Lyumjev But none in the UK I think manly American or Sweden from what they said & the way they spoke on you tube

No, they do used fiasp in pumps in UK. Clinic i am at prescribe it. Even my GP mentioned it, but like I said, all down to costs as it is cheaper.
 
I use fiasp with omnipod 5, I just asked if I could try it after having been on novorapid for 20+ years and the DSN gave me a prescription and then my GP changed my repeat prescription. I had to do a bit of experimentation with the active insulin time, but have had zero issues.
