insulin given via iv due to high glucose levels and infection but i dont understand why also given pen glucose
I can't see it should ever be necessary. If someone is on insulin drips, they should be able to monitor and control. As in "sliding scale" treatment. I know they don't always get it right and I have serious reservations about using "sliding scale therapy. However it's still being used. I've even "done Batle" with a consultant over its use.what point would pen glucose be administered in hospital if someone already on intravenous insulin
no medical notes definately say pen glucoseCould it be an error? Pen insulin instead?
Glucose needs to be ingested

Glucagon for a hypo? (though as far as I know there are no kits on the market using a pen, they all use a hypodermic )
More normally, glucose can be given by IV and is added to IV insulin when glucose is below a certain level. It's part and parcel of a sliding scale regime .http://www.icid.salisbury.nhs.uk/Cl...travenousSlidingScaleInsulin.aspx#top_of_page

why do these levels go up and down if they are being monitored in a hospital
