Really confused about what to eat i shold be eating. Can someone help me

Carla, if you can eat eggs, do. Eggs for breakfast are a treat, I find. You can scramble them with cream or lots of butter. Not being vegetarian myself I often scramble eggs in bacon fat, but butter should work just fine, or do it the usual way with cream.

Or go for the fattest variety of yoghurt you can find, add a few tablespoons of double cream to it and top it with nuts and a few berries.

Cheese is also a good breakfast. Or snack. Or dessert. Any-time is a time for cheese.

If you feel you do need a slice of bread, cut it thin and take the double thickness of butter on top of it. Proper butter, preferably organic as the fatty acids are of better quality in organic stuff. And add cheese.

But what is wrong with saturated fats? As in lovely pig fat? Oh my, my diet is severely unbalanced I am afraid in that case! And I love butter.

A balanced diet, in my view, is to eat the whole animal and not to throw away the best part of it. And yes, I eat liver and most of the rest as well.

Heart?
Brain?
Sweetmeats?
Tongue?

Take it no one checked out the carbs in organ meat then, for example liver has about 4g per 100g, organ meat is restricted on the atkins diet for that reason.

Four grams of carb per hundred grams. Well good grief I'm cutting my wrists. Are you squeezing our melons.

FB

carbs everywhere.
9g in a 100g of melon.
Don't know what squeezed ones are like though, probably much the same as liver.

Actually I eat liver, so say 250g as a serving.
That's a third of andy's daily intake of carbs.
OK if you know it's there, not good if you assume it's zero.

Rarely brain but heart and tongue, yes of course. It happens I am a farmer - or married to one anyway and work the farm alongside with my husband so we eat our own animals, the fatter the better IMO. I love mutton! The fatter the better.

But sweetmeats have gone out of fashion in my household, I am afraid.

just eat what you like , normal food that everyone else eats but in smaller qtys you can eat sweets and sweet things but not every day and in a smallet qty your diabetic nurse can help theres a diabetic magazine you can get from your GP nurse has everything you want to know about foods etc

This is posted in a pre-diabetes forum and the OP is pre diabetic and should not really be following a 'Devil may care' attitude such as "just eat what you like..." as you put, regardless of smaller quantities-Low carb,Low GI-GL or whatever-sweets are bad for diabetics full stop if common sense is taken into consideration apart from treating a true hypo.

Im just so confused about what to eat. im trying to eat things that have a low carb count on the back of the packaging but im just not sure what is actually considered high or not.

doctor told me i could still have things like mash or potatoes or mac and cheese just in small amounts. for example, quarter a plate should be carbs like pasta rice potato etc, 2nd quarter protein like beans or nuts and the other half should be vegetables

Carla, It sounds as though you are having the same problems as me. You should have seen me in Tesco's tongiht trying to read the Carb values and wondering what was high and what was not. When I saw cheese with 0.2g of Carb I popped it into my trolley. But I wanted some crackers that were higher in carbs and I bought them and ate one and then tested my levels to see how I'd reacted to it. Thankfully it was all good.My levels are much better behaved when I have protein. This forum has taught me to stick to GOOD carbs over BAD ones, so cutting out refined carbs and having the higher fibre ones. (At least I think that's right) It is a minefield. Keep slogging away at it and you can stave off the Big D. That's what I keep telling myself!!

Whilst you're learning, test regulary to see your BG reactions and get a better picture of which foods you can handle. I think you'll find this forum invaluable

Yes a lot of good advice about eating here I know it must be a bit more difficult when you are vegetarian. I am prediabetic and I do a moderate lower carb but not very low carb diet so I do not eat white bread but do have a slice of wholemeal toast with my breakfast and no rice or pasta and only root vegetables occasionally and of course no cakes biscuits or sugary drinks, This seems to work for me at the moment. Good luck with yours

I can only write from my experience of receiving the pre diabetic diagnosis.
I already have high blood pressure and when I had my yearly blood test 12 months ago I was told I had high cholestral and prediabetis, I was shocked to say the least.
I am an active person go to the gym and am in a walking group weighing 10 and a half stone at that time and normal weight for my height.
I went to have a chat with the diabetic nurse and asked for an appointment with a nutritionist at the hospital and was given advice, and I did lots of research. I found there is not a diabetic diet that suits all.
I was given a list of all the foods and drink I could eat and what foods to avoid, I bought a meter to check my blood sugar level and started checking what I could eat.
The restrictive diet lost me 1 and half stone in weight which I am not happy about and doc said to try and get back to 9 and a half stone but it's difficult.
My diet is
I avoid potatoes
white flour
white rice
parsnips
No cakes, ( well I allow myself one on special occasions)
I have red meat rarely
butter rarely
check labels
I cook my own soups and freeze
don't eat tinned food or take a ways
don't eat processed foods

Be careful with too much fruit this will increase your BS
as will some vegetables
Best to check after you have eaten, do a prick test.

I eat soya and linsead bread
steam all veg or roast in the oven with herbs
fish baked grilled or steamed
chicken roasted grilled or quick tried
eat brown rice cook a pan full and freeze in portions
Be careful with oils check the ones that are better for you

Get a list of Low to medium low G I foods

My BS level is now normal and my cholesterol is 4.3, doc says he would never have thought a patient could do this with diet alone but thing is if I can avoid the complication of diabetes I am going to do what I can.

It's difficult eating out. and going on holiday

Would you consider becoming a piscatarian for your health, something to think about..

Best of luck
