Yes, these trad med docs can really set heads spinning, even their own. I'm just humoring mine by going to the Dietician when my Obamacare kicks in.
I will stick with what I've learned from this forum, and other research I have done.

I treated myself to TWO AVOCADOS today!!!!:joyful: I ate them while waiting for the lorry (bus:p) and I thought they might freeze and I would create a new frozen treat. Avocado Midwestern style. Tomorrow I will stock up on them and other fantastic stuff.
I also had Greek, fat-free, yogurt which was so rich that it tasted like full-fat. I had that with fresh black-berries.

I have been getting help from a local clinic that gives me vouchers so that I can see the GP, have basic test done, have Rx meds filled low-cost, etc, but, no specialists through this local clinic. I have to wait for our president's creation to kick in for that.

Needless to say the stress in getting the Obamacare application done has been enormous.
Just as predicted so, far, it's been nearly a month and the medicaid bureaucracy has screwed everything up royally. Every day a new nightmare. I'm a pretty good record-keeper, which is fortunate because I usually have to plan for the worse when dealing with these federal agencies.

I know the UK has National Health coverage. Looks like its been working well for the UK; but, I doubt it will work as well here.

Doc said that my heart seems to be acting up from 1) certain foods; 2) stress as in dealing with anxiety-producing issues (such as rental managers). She does not think the symptoms are necessarily indicative of serious heart-trouble, but, I have agreed to go for a 2-day stress test.:woot:

No yeast infection, or so she thinks, but, I still want to be tested.

I have the HbA1c calculator on my PC desktop. My weekly BG average is getting better.

Forgot to say that I was told yesterday that my first HbA1c is 63 (7.9%).

 You're getting there it seems!
This all takes so much patience, but once we get caught up to our healthy numbers we will be healthier than people who are not deemed diabetic. I am sure of that.

I agree! I know I will certainly be generally more healthy than pre-diagnosis

Regarding a curry night, yes I love it and make my own nice curries, however I usually mop them up with lashings of rice. A couple of weeks ago I had a rissioto, now that's definitely out as I had a big spike the day after. So curry a will have to have a tiny helping of rice, I used to also buy the birds eye frozen korma with rice but found this week by reading the label that there's 69 grs of carbs in one meal. I do have brown rice in my cupboard, hate it but better than none. Haven't been to my fav. Chinese since diagnosis, :0(

I was wondering today how Jan is getting on with her Saturday movie nights. Please let us know if you are still around :)

I like trying new food on Saturdays as there is time to experiment. Googling and pondering what would be a good cuisine for me tonight...Chinese new year? Super Bowl?

I then discovered that you CAN make falafels from a cauliflower!! *does happy dance*. So tonight is (kind of ) Moroccan night! :woot:

http://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/2012/03/faux-lafel-with-tahini-sauce-2.html

Will let you know how it goes.

Tonight I had salmon with organic cauliflower and Brussel sprouts. The salmon smelled and tasted like the kind of fish I am used to, from the East Coast. I added raw garlic, and onion, and some flesh lemon juice. Very nice.
I am really starting to feel better, and almost all of the neuropathy in my feet and hands has gone away. Still sensitive to the cold but not in agony anymore.
Happy Moroccan Night!

:pOh, yeah, I had the fish in celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the Bell Rock Lighthouse!!
Even I'm starting to celebrate UK historical events and holidays. Any excuse for a treat.
Sigh, wish I could see that lighthouse. I have to get better because I still have a lot of traveling to do.

Fantastic news about your neuropathy  Roll on the Spring. Good idea to celebrate the holidays. Just be careful tomorrow as it is National Carrot Cake Day apparently!

The cauli-falafel was a triumph. Photo on the recipe thread.

I wonder how long we can chat on the newbies board before we get thrown off for being oldies LOL

*leaves virtual fakey whole nut bar here for Andy in case he's passing*

OMG, an American National Carrot Cake Day. Never knew that even existed. I will be careful though.

I really haven't been on the recipe thread much, still sticking to my own concoctions, but, I guess swapping and using suggested recipes is a great way to really a part of this forum. I use some of the suggested general ideas for cooking and preparing foods, though.

I don't know the time-frame which determines when newbies become oldies. Guess a mod will give you a head's up.

Yes, thank God my hands and feet are getting better. They are recovering quicker from the cold also, so I guess my circulation is improving.:joyful:

I had my first diabetes clinic experience today.

Nurse - went ok. Got a flu jab and I said I would get the pneumonia vaccine another day as I don't fancy having two alien things on the same day. I lost 2 pounds this week (16 pounds total) Statins politely declined again. She will check my HbA1c again in April and decide then whether to increase metformin from one a day.

Dietitian - I think the best thing I can say about this encounter is that I managed not to cry! I went to my happy place while she chanted, "Eat more carbs, eat less cheese." :***:

Podiatrist - lovely lady. Told me that diabetes is not progressive and with good bg levels, there is no reason to expect neuropathy. She said I should use my diagnosis as an excuse to pamper myself with lovely foot things from Boots.

Hope you are all doing well and that FG is enjoying a joyful National Frozen Yogurt Day :joyful:

Thanks, A7, I've been eating plain yogurt with frozen blueberries, in fact.

Congrats on your very positive Podiatrist visit, and I hope I hear similar good news when I see mine for the first time.

Hope your "happy place" was truly a very happy one in order to drown-out the looney's dim-wit mantra.

:joyful:So glad to hear that you have lost some lbs, and your BG levels are good! And thanks for sharing all of this with us. I know it helps me to keep pluggin' along and I'm sure that your successes are inspiring others too!

I posted on another thread that I am in ketosis, so I gather my body is silently consuming the horrible extra lbs. I notice a slight difference in how I am moving around, a bit lighter on my feet.

Oooh ketosis. Congratulations FG. I read that gives you fruity breath! :hungry: Sadly I currently have really doggy breath :( Seeing the dentist for a check up on Wednesday and fear the poor woman will faint lol

Saturday night dinner was Russian night! What else?! Nice bit of stroganoff. Friday night was lime vodka night while watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics. I am very good to myself. Hope you are treating yourself too and keeping well

Good luck at the dentist, A7, and don't worry about the pooch-breath----she has smelled everything, you can be sure.

Aye, ketosis does gives me "fruity" breath, also, metallic breath and acetone breath. Few other odd odours around the bod also.:yuck:

What my acetone taste brought to mind was a scene from the fab vampire movie, "Immortality", when Jude Law tells his sweetheart that his breath has an acetone smell and that means that his body is "eating itself". He meant he was dying. That is ketoacidosis (sp?) when the muscles are actually wasting away. :mask: Anyway, I thought that the acetone reference was hilarious.

Looks like my Obamacare is going to kick in soon, so I'll be spending a lot of time going for all those specialist visits.

Great news! The local clinic that has been helping me out just got a large $ grant, so I think I shall be getting 6 months worth of free lancers and strips. Thank God for small favors. {Amazing what I get my jollies off on these days. Almost pathetic. This disease certainly changes one's priority and perspective.)

:playful: a-h-h-h-h lime vodka.......I don't drink at all, but that sounds fantastic. Stroganoff for Russian night must have been :hungry:. I've been eating a lot of red meats lately, myself, so I've put the vegetarian thing to completely to rest.

Thanks for the update, A7. Incidentally, we are both now officially "Active Members", as per our avatar inscriptions. Guess we passed the "initiation stage". :p

Hi FG

Your ketosis post got me pondering about by badger breath. I got some ketostix from Amazon and tried one this morning. It turned pink which may explain why nobody is queueing up to kiss my smelly mouth this Valentines Day! :yuck: lol

I know exactly what you mean!! My blood pressure monitor is being delivered today and I am BEYOND excited about this :woot: BP a bit high and I said I would test myself for a while at home rather than take the meds. Nurse is ok with this for now.

And I ate lentils last night without spiking! I am disproportionately happy about this too :joyful: (The stroganoff was just mushrooms, by the way.)

Things are really looking up for you at the moment which is great to read :)

Happy Valentine's Day to both of you! (Btw, the above pic is of actor Ryan Gosling....I can dream can't I? He does cause my "sugar" to spike though.:wacky:)

The secret, A7, is to find someone to kiss who has ketosis, or some version of it, also. Find a handsome vampire maybe?

Yes, I am doing much better, much more sprite and ready to raise hell.:wideyed:

Got my Podiatrist appointment set for Tuesday @ 2:30 pm. I can now proceed to line up all of the other needed appointments, as my Obamacare has kicked in. Only $2.00 - $3.00 co-pay for the specialists.

Regarding what makes us happy these days, at least I'm not a very young person. Being ecstatic over getting free self-stabbing devices would then be even more embarrassing. Unless I was i into that, as a lark.

Glad you told me that was Ryan Gosling as I was clueless. No wonder I am rubbish at Willie's photo quiz! Lol. I seem to only fancy ugly old rockers and dead guys these day. I had a crush on Liam from 90210 for a while, but my kids kept telling me I was old enough to be his mum which put a damper on it!

Well done on your 5.5% average this week. Excellent!

As I get older I realize that "younger" is better, LOL. I still have crushes on dead celebrities, though, in as far that such attractions could allow me to still be considered playing with a full deck. I've also been an autograph hound since a teenager, and have met lots of famous people (while they were still alive, hee, hee).

Liam from 90210 is quite a cute darling.

Regarding the "Who are they" thread, we have both won first place for Wee Willie's entries, so no reason to be hard on yourself.

Looks like we are both doing much better, and I guess we just have to be patient with ourselves for soaring to the heights of bliss over seemingly mundane accomplishments. Great about your BP machine, and hope it helps you to whack your BP into it's proper place. One more weapon in this war of good vs bad health.:jimlad: "argh-h-h-h"-...(thrusts sword)

Thanks for the update, A7 !
