An awful lot.
Haven't the foggiest who suggested the book Grain Brain by Dr Pearlmutter. It is packed with info and by about page 8 l had decided hub was gluten intolerant it and it explained all his problems. I went back to the start of the book part way through and got him to listen to the talk part of kindle and he was also interested. He is now on a gluten free diet and has started to low carb with me. I know in the book he discussed diabetes and low carb high fat and lot of other things we do.

So l suggest you take the time to read Grain Brain by Dr Pearlmutter. I will be going gluten free just want to finish the box of crackerbread l have then l am also on the wagon. Pretty certain it will help the diabetes and certain it will help protect against things like alzheimers in later life.

Anyone else any comments on this book... and who suggested it from here! Our thanks to them.

Hub isnt hungry between meals and in fact isnt hungry at meal times, and all the problems he had, being always cold more energy loosing weight stomach has improved, no bloating and no wind.
Some like not hungry is the low carb high fat but the rest seems to chime in with the books suggestion of gluten intolerant. He tested negative in 2012 for diabetes, pancreatic cancer (72 hr fasting passed) having hypos not coeliac they decided he just didn't always digest food sometimes. Having him pass the coeliac l never thought about intolerant to gluten it was just to lateral.

I've never heard of the book, but will be certainly checking it out. My Mom is wheat intolerant and has been for several years. She tested negative for coeliac disease, and after a while managed to narrow it down simply to wheat intolerance. I avoid wheat too, since it's pretty much the next thing that us humans are over-exposed to after sugar.

By the way, DS (dietary specials) do a Gluten Free crackerbread... It's in a yellow box in the freefrom section of the supermarket. They are the best tasting crispbreads ever - taste far better than normal wheaty crackerbreads!

Not really a surprise some will disagree for my part has made such a BIG difference to our lives though that l feel l should spread the word. He also discusses about diabetics so when l get to that part shall see if it helps me but l recon cutting down on gluten even for those that still eat bready things and other products as diabetics it is worth their trying.
It isn't like the diabetic ding ding and round 5000 coming up that the LCHF fight has as it doesn't have the same inherent risks or losses.

Thing is if someone tries it and it works they are on a winner in the food arsenal that we have to deal with as diabetics, if not then they have lost nothing but a book and a few weeks without gluten.:)

Hi MID, does your husband have hypothyroidism? Common signs are energy loss, always cold, low body temp and tired, weight gain, pain and a hundred or so other signs and symptoms. A low-carb grain-free diet usually gives relief.

O I remember how cold I was! All the hot water bottles I could lay may hands on were in bed with me and I was still freezing with double blankets and a couple of cats.

No Totto he has had huge battery of tests to be fair they hit him with everything inc obscure ones as he was getting progrrssivly severe hypo type symptoms when we met.
l got him to do a total diet change inc. cut out all alcohol. last year he had a 72hr fasting and the "hypos" stopped. Last set of blood tests in may and the decision was he wasnt always digesting food right and not having hypos
Whatever it wad seemed to finally cleared when l said cut out gluten he agreed and if he has some like this morning a bacon bap he starts with bad wind.

Has he had B12 and folate checked? Digestive problems can go hand in hand with inability to absorb some vitamin Bs, particularly B12. Going grain free usually helps though!

Yup they were through even a vampire didn't suck out as much blood as they took. l think he got to be a challenge but as l say since 72hr fasting has been all uphill and gluten free was final thing that has ended things.

I too found this book very interesting ,particularly appreciated the clinical evidence he cites to back up what he claims Apparently a low cholesterol is overall a worrying thing ! I intend to read the book a second time as want to think through what he says about inflammation and insulin He certainly gives all some good reasons to think about a low carb higher fat diet.

It certainly does-I cannot absorb enough B12 through diet alone due to Crohns disease, easily remedied through injections although I have noticed an improvement in my IBD symptoms since cutting grain on LCHF-could be coincidental but I have heard of others finding the same.
