Defo mine lol Picture Disney's Brave pulled through a hedge backwards. Don't trust those hairdressers, not a single one. Think I would trust by GP more for a cut and blow dry.

All the more reason to listen to their patients, I think.The G in GP is for general. Jacks of all trades, masters of none. It is understandable that we have more interest in diabetes than general practitioners. This is why they have specialist diabetic nurses and dieticians. This is where it goes pear shaped, dietician-wise at least, in my opinion.
Can we add hairdressers to Andy's list? I am sitting on my head hair here cos they can't be trusted
Can´t advice on hair-dresser as I haven't been to one in decades. I get one of my neighbours to cut a couple of times a year, The benefit of long hair is It doesn't really need much.

Last time I cut my daughters hair she moved at the last minute and it went up towards the right. It wasn't a good look and I had to take her to the hairdresser!

Did you have a bad experience at the scabby toe doctor yesterday? Or should I shut up?ahhh maybe we should go back to the barber (or hairdresser) doing the operations and being our doctorsthat way when you get ignored at least you get a hair cut out of it

My daughter let me pull one of her teeth out once. Won't let me touch her precious hair though lol

feet got better again but she did lots of tests on circulation and said everything was fine thankyouthis isnt really a moan at doctors, this is an understanding of why they can be bad, its an acceptance and dont really blame them type of thing, for me anyway
its a "you suck but so would i" thing lol

Thing with my hair is that it keeps growing longer continuously. Doesn't all hairs? And needs to be cut when the outer part is damaged? If I shaved my head I would soon have a lot of hair growing on it again.
Since I started on thyroid meds, that is. Before meds, frizzy and bad hair, but lots of curls. After meds. lovely shiny hair and my old strait un-curly hair back.

Re the GPs, as long as you keep one step ahead of them, you will be fine. It is the folk who are in the dark and accept the NHS advice, hook, line...that I feel for

When I first joined the forum, I read a thread where people were saying metformin was making their hair fall out
Decided then to keep my long hair for as long as possible to spite the meds lol. If metformin wants it, fine. If not, I am keeping it!

My GP wants to see where diet takes me before we try metformin and I will be reluctant indeed to try metformin.
The worst that ever happened to my hair were the ten years I was wildly hypothyroid without any medics noticing. I then diagnosed myself, self-treated with NDT and now, couple of years on have lovely hair! And regained all the rest apart from my eye-brows but you cant have it all, can you?

I know just what you mean. I went to my Doc this week with tiredness but fortunately she was insightful and arranged blood tests but I';ve had other doctors that say Black when I say White etc. It makes it all such hard work.
But my new doctors are great so far.

I think it's true, we do expect too much from our GP's, but usually because they are our foot-in-the-door into the world that is NHS. Not being listened to by a GP is frustrating, and can make someone feel like they have to deal with their health issues on their own. I was a carer for my grandmother, who initially had long term mental health issues. About 12 months ago her physical health deteriorated suddenly - within days she went from walking 2 or 3 miles a day to being unable to walk to the bathroom unaided, but it was extremely difficult to get a GP to listen. We were fobbed off with "normal age-related deterioration". Eventually, after I fought with everyone at the surgery, she was referred for further tests. Within 6 months she had died of pulmonary fibrosis (a condition where lung tissue loses it's elasticity, making it difficult to breathe and the lungs fill with fluid). The condition couldn't have been prevented, but had someone listened from the start, it could have been managed better, she would have had more time, and her death would have been more comfortable.
The very least we should expect is that our GP's listen to us and take us seriously. In my opinion, that is the very minimum expectation, but many aren't even meeting that.

I dont think GPs are supposed to be experts.. that is the prerogative of the consultant. They are our first port of call and they can point us in the right direction IF they listen to our concerns.
I think it is a case of telling them just enough . When my dad had his heart attack the Doc arrived and my mom told him that my dad was diabetic and he immediately gave him a sugar blast. My dad turned blue. The horror on the Docs face was so obvious but he managed to get him to hospital until his second heart attack which was fatal, 12 hours later.
It can be all too easy to PRESUME!

To be honest, I hope they don't try and enforce further pressure on the NHS. Sick and tired of attacks on the public sector. I work anywhere between 55-65 hours a week for my money (including weekends and a large part of every school holiday) and the people who are most likely to suffer will be the lowest paid workers. We hear lots of complaints about quality but people are expected to do more and more to the point where they cannot meet all of the demands given. There are the minimum number of staff on shift and when there is a high demand (almost always) the staff are unable to cope. The 3 local hospitals where I live share staff so when I was diagnosed with pneumonia again I had to go home because they had run out of beds and the doctor and the registrar on duty were having a huge argument as I had already had the cannula put into my arm in preparation for being admitted. The bottom line is, a larger proportion of the budget needs to be spent upon the NHS so that staff receive the most current training and people receive the care and meds to which they are entitled. Perhaps the likes of Cameron and all those other greedy MPs could practise what they preach instead of voting for huge pay rises for themselves at a time when most people's salaries have taken a significant dive.
It would be fascinating to know if people's opinion of their doctors changed, in the light of their diabetes diagnosis, and subsequent interactions.
