I've come to a decision ...

I have to give up chocolate completely. I've been pretending that I can have a little bit and be fine but I can't stop at a little bit.

I have been a huge chocoholic since I was a toddler, hence why over the past few months I've fought against giving it up.

I know this doesn't seem like a big deal and in the grand scheme of things it's not important at all, I just think typing/writing it makes it final. Done and dusted. I will never be able to control myself so the only option is to have none at all.

Thank you. The decision came after I had 2 truffles ... And then the rest of the box. Goodbye chocolate, hopefully my levels will stabilise now. New start tomorrow and I'm feeling motivated :)

Good luck Rosie, I know how you feel. I quit smoking years ago but to be honest, I enjoyed the occasional smoke but if I had a few, I'd be back on 20 a day !

Thanks mo. It's definitely a case of all or none with me and chocolate lol.

I gave up smoking in October last year. It was strange as I didn't plan it or try. I woke up one morning and didn't have a fag nor did I want one. I literally felt like i had never smoked in my life.

Even stranger, exactly one month later I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes ...

Good luck and well done! When I started LCHF I got rid of anything naughty - gave it all to a friend! I work from the principle if I don't have it in, I can't eat it! Kids now have things from time to time and it catches me unawares. They opened a tube of Pringles and I had to go and do something else - lol! Going to the supermarket was tough in the beginning but now I don't care. Ultimately your common sense kicks in and you learn how to say no! Long may you stay strong! X

Yes, I feel the same way. I gave up chocolate straightaway, knowing that I couldn't just see a box of chocolates and leave any alone! I feel much happier with none, except for a tiny bit perhaps when I'm out at a meal.

Well done Rosie, it's very hard giving up the things we love but in the long run it seems the only way really. Onward and upward hon :)

Well done its a tough choice but you can do it. If the chocolate craving ever gets you then make some chocolate muffins or some of the other chocolate recipes from this site. I've never been a huge fan of chocolate but my partner eats a bar every night. Sometimes I need to leave the room and other times I give in and have a piece, then i feel really angry with myself for giving in when my levels go into double figures. I think it's easier to say "I don't NEED any" rather than "I don't WANT any"

Thank you scandichic :) i have my bag of 'naughty stuff' packed in my bag to take into work today lol. Gonna have to think of some different snacks now hmm.

My partner said he's gonna stop eating it too, which helps. Also posting it on here helps, it's nice to talk to people that understand and you're all so encouraging so thank you so much :)

I fought against giving it up, convincing myself that I could have a one piece after my evening meal ... This worked for a few days until that gradually creeped up to 2, then 3 and then I ate it I between meals. Even then I would just buy different chocolate and then the same would happen again. It tasted so good but my bg readings are 10.3 this morning so that's encouragement enough, I hate waking up high :(

Thanks Shelly :) I'm in double figures this morning, which I hate because a bad start to the day bums me out :( chocolate just isn't worth it anymore.

I will keep telling myself I don't need it rather than don't want, that's really helpful. It doesn't feel like I'm missing out so much when I think like that :)

So what is your reading first thing if you don't eat chocolate? Just thought of something. Are you able to walk into town? Do you have a Thorntons? Could you not walk into town, for example, and buy 1 chocolate? Or would you be tempted to buy several and scoff the lot? My self control is quite good at the mo' but I don't know how I'll be in say 6 months time. For me the worst times are between 3 and 5. If I'm Ina meeting, ok but if I'm at my desk then sometimes I have to go home and have a piece of cheese. Sometimes, if I fancy something sweet, I cut off a small piece of cheese and that makes me feel better. Hope this helps! :)

I'm usually between 6 and 7 in the mornings, sometimes in the 5s. If I went to thorntons not only would I scoff the lot I'd also stock up so I had a continuous supply lol.

My worst time is once I've finished my evening meal because then I just want to munch until bed time no matter how full I am.

I enjoy cheese so that's what I'll snack on. Having a laughing cow triangle as I type now :) thanks for the help x

Sorry to hear you're off to a bad start today but tell yourself things can only get better. If you can have a walk this morning it may help. :-)

Thank you :) didn't need to walk as my job is very physical, particularly in the mornings so I'm back in single figures now (definitely getting better already) yay :)

You could try having a large glass of water with ice and a slice of lemon to hand after your evening meal I had a problem when giving up smoking many moons ago I didnt feel like I had finished my meal without a fag and that may be how you feel without your choc so having some thing to put in your mouth may help
