Hi, I just want to encourage anyone who has been diagnosed with diabetes, do not allow this to stress you. Be positive, with self-control and determination you shall overcome. I was diagnosed with diabetes a month ago, it got to me at first, fear gripped me momentarily. I have got four children, negative thoughts about dying early crippled my mind, I was thinking about the future of my children if in case I die early. I thank God I have a very supportive wife. After the diagnosis, I went straight on low carbs food, oil with less saturated fats, minimising my intake of food, stop sugar intake altogether except those food which come with little amount of sugar, drinking plenty of water. I do exercise twice a week for 40 minutes. Well, let me tell you I have never felt so healthy for quite a long time. I have lost about 8kg in one month. My blood sugar has always been in between 4-8. Most of the time it is in between 4.5-6.2 without taking any medication.
I have found that Kellogs bran flakes (original) is very good as it has high fibre
Eat plenty of spinach, pumpkin soup, lentil soup, fish (oily), fresh fruits, seeded brown bread, greeneries, cabbage, sprout, lean meat occasionally, skimmed milk, low-fat food
Eat sensibly, a small portion about 5-6 times a day.. I eat some kellogs bran flake in the morning at 8am, 10:30 am I eat a pear or an apple and some dried nuts mainly hazelnuts and almond, at 1pm I eat some sandwich, at 3:30pm a light snack, at 6pm I eat about 5-10 spoonful of bulgur wheat with fish, chicken with some salad. It is working for me, I hope it does for you as well. And don't forget the blood monitor device, the stripes and the lancets are free, they should be prescribed by your GP except the monitor which I got from the nurse. Do check your blood regularly before eating and 2 hours after eating, that would give you an idea about the fluctuation in the sugar in the blood. Good luck

You have done well but your preferences and choices may not suit other people as we respond individually to foods.

I see from your profile that you are pre-diabetic and have to say that most Type2s are not afforded the luxury of a meter and test strips on prescription as you have been and either have to rely on their HBA1c test or have to buy them.

Hi, I totally agree with your opinion but I just wanted to lift any diabetic or pre-diabetic with my testimony. Well, with regard to food preferences I don't know what to say. At the moment a lot of food I am eating I would have never preferred them in a million years. It's not about preferences and choices, it about what is best for my condition, it is not easy but it is working. I just wanted to share with others my experience for other people to try, if that works for them, it would bring joy to my heart. Moreover, your are eligible for a free blood monitor, if I have got one and I believe the rule of the NHS is the same for everybody across the U.K. Again, the strips and lancets they are free on prescription, your GP could prescribed them on repeat so that you don't have to go see him every now and then. I wish you luck and I hope everything works well for you.
Moreover, I am not quite sure if I am pre-diabetic or type2 because the doctor told I am I the early stage and the nurse told me I am type2. I was prescribed with Medformin and Simvastatin

I am not trying to upset you and think you have done really well.

It is your supposition that meters and test strips are freely available to pre-diabetics and Type2's that I take issue with.

This is the latest e-petiton of many that forum members have tried to put forward to make a difference. If we were all allowed them then there would be no need for petitions.

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
Whatever you do, do not limit your enjoyment of food.
Life is for living.. If you go to only having branflakes for breakfast for the next say 30 years (dont know your age).... You willl become another person here saying I'm fedup with D.

You cannot limit yourself for life to certain food or foods. Life is about enjoying everything...

I really worry about people that after a month think they have a good result... But you MUST think long term and get different choices of breakfasts and snacks otherwise you have chosen an unsustainable dist, and not a lifestyle diet.

One day for example you may go on a safari to Kenya, backpacking in Africa, living in a tent or on the streets etc. you do not know what is round the corner for you.. This is why your choices should be sustainable
