Yes...... I was joking. I'm being a good girl really, just the occasional treat, it is very early days yet, Mother's Day tomorrow and I'm off in hospital on Monday for 8 p.m so I think I deserve a little treat. Am thinking of trying the 5 2 diet? Any opinions? xx

8 AM that should have been. Going to have to learn to read labels better, I got myself some Ultra Slim meal replacements today and just had one then, read the front, sugars per serving 28.2!!! ooooops....

Sadly I'm not surprised.
Whilst I'm sure there are exceptions, invariably all meal replacements I've seen were little more than whey and sugar.
It's worthwhile remembering that diabetes is a lifetime illness, so it may make sense to find a way of eating sustainable for a lifetime.
Ditching processed food in favour of real food is usually a very good starting point.
Good luck at the hospital on Monday! :nurse:

Aw thank you Italiankitten. Yep, you're so right. I've been trying to find substitutes for the fact that I don't like food any more, so I've bought £93.00 worth of Atkins bars, just so I don't have to try coming up with acceptable meals. Not like me :arghh: xx

That's not what I would call "real food", and I'm sure you know that. BUT, if you need time to regroup and find a good eating strategy, so be it. This is a long game we are playing, so a few days on Atkins bars won't kill you, but you must start thinking about what's going to happen after.

I don't mean to put my Italian nose in your business, but have you been diagnosed with diabetes type 2 recently?
If that's the case, a good degree of confusion and perhaps a tiny bit of desperation is to be expected.

I was diagnosed on NYE 2013 (happy New Year to me... or not), and I think I spent the first two weeks in a tearful daze.
At one point my eyes were so fed up with crying that they were plotting to pop out of my head and join the circus - just to get away from me.

Eventually I picked myself up and decided to see what I could do to keep myself as healthy as possible, for as long as possible. I strongly believe that when medicines and insulin are needed, they are needed.
But I equally strongly believe that the first line of defence against diabetes is nutrition, so you will need a strategy for life.

There are people in this forum that have been living with the disease for decades and will be delighted to help you.
I'm little more than a diabetic hatchling, new at everything, but if I can be of any help at all, you only have to ask.

Thanks very much, yes, diagnosed in February and just left to it. Bought books and diet plans including LCHF and I will get to grips with it but as I'm going in hospital on Monday for an Angiogram and possibly stents put in my heart valves, I can't really focus at the mo. Plus after 40 years of marriage my husband decided he wanted to live on his own in January, so I've to move out too. Naturally, I'm trying not to let any one of these factors get me down too much, but I could feel a bit sorry for myself if I thought about it.

I know I'll get over all this and quite frankly, I'm looking forward to starting my new life, it's probably the kick up the fat bum I need!!! xx

Oh, LunarLinda... how horrible! :depressed:

With all you are going through I am not surprised organising food is the last thing in your mind.
Having said that, it is in moment of great stress and emotional demand that food can assist us.
Just buy some eggs, pre-prepared cut veggies, spinach bags, and some extra virgin olive oil.
A good plate of scrambled eggs with veggies or a nice spinach frittata drizzled with olive oil;
and there you have it, two super fast dishes, highly nutritious, and kind to your blood sugar.
They can help sustain you through such difficult time much better than any Atkins bar.

A big (((hug)))

be careful not to eat the atkins bars to close together, they can be a good lubricant

Eggs, eggs and eggs :)

Oh and cream, can't do without it my morning coffee.
Tuna, fresh salmon, chicken breasts........and butter. Oh, that's more than 3, oh well :D

Also fresh veg for soup. Getting to be Autumn here so a bit cold, lovely hot soup for lunch is divine

Good luck with the hospital Lunarlinda , my local one is not at all lowcarb friendly. I hope that the op goes smoothly.

Oh you sweet person, thank you very much and I do like those suggestions for easily prepared meals so I will try them when I get to go shopping again for the ingredients. Bless you. xx
