Hi

I am feeling dizzy more regularly. Is this because my sugar has completely gone down? Is this nornal when your intake of suger is zero and what can be done to fix this?

Thanks

TOSH1

I felt dizzy a few times at the start. I think I had just cut back on my food too much. I have not felt it since I increased my fat intake a bit.
If it is frequent or persistent you should see a doctor.

What does Dizzy think of this attention?:)
Seriously what is your BG doing? is it getting low(er)?

Thanks for your reply

I don't know what my blood sugar is. Spoke to the Dr and about testing my Blood sugar and he advised that he wont put me on medication or testing right t now because he wants to see the results after 3 months. My blood pressure is low and so is my cholesterol.

I explained that I have completely changed my diet. no more sugar or fat and more exercise. I am also getting fuzzy sight. Should I be concerned?

Normally drink black coffee with no sugar for breakfast before going to work or doing any exercise. This is when it is really bad,

The fuzzy eye sight seems to be common. I had it for a while. It is cause by the glucose level in your eye topping apparently. My eyesight is actually better than it has been for ages.

Low blood pressure can cause dizziness, even to the extent of fainting. It's very common (not the fainting bit, that's more extreme.)

Are you low carbing and on metformin by any chance? I had this for about a month. Stopped when they finally reduced metformin from 3 to 1 - when I had a hypo! at this point I had lost a lot of weight and halved my blood sugars. Just asking?

I experience this dizziness a lot. I went to the nurse about 6 weeks ago and she agreed to reduce my metformin from 3 to 2 doses of 500mg per day. My readings are averaging 5.2 so perhaps I need a further reduction. I'm having to wait until the next half term to see her because she's fully booked until then.

I agree, in the past when I wasn't overweight, my blood pressure sometimes got so low that I would faint, (maybe once a year). I remember going to see my GP for a check-up when I was pregnant. I was functioning OK, but feeling a little 'spaced out'. My BP was 80/30.
I agree with peacetrain it would be good to speak to your nurse or GP about this. My own opinion is that it is just a phase which will pass when your body is more used to the new diet, but of course that could be wrong, so it's best to get medical advice.

Perhaps lack of food is making you dizzy. Where are you getting your energy from?

Last time you wrote what you were eating it was only cherry tomatoes and black coffee. If that's still all that you're eating, then I'm not surprised that you feel dizzy, Tosh.

Not on Metfomin or any medication
If you're not on meds then it could be your body getting used to low carbing. How much water are you drinking? Not enough can make you feel dizzy. You need to drink gallons! I think I'd be tempted to make a doctors appointment. Are you eating enough?

Caffeinated black coffee on an empty stomach every day would make me feel terrible - possibly dizzy or nauseous. You could try quitting caffeine and see if the problem goes away. You may get temporary headaches when you stop caffeine, in the first few days.

Also, even if you don't stop the caffeine, make sure you are getting enough water. Coffee on its own will just dehydrate you.

Dizziness on a low carb diet can also be from lack of salt. You need more salt when you are low carbing than when you are eating a standard diet.

Oh? This is good to know. I've been suffering from cramp recently. I've always been a sufferer but it had subsided. I thought the diabetes had cured it!!! however, I began low carbing and I've noticed the cramp is back... from ankle bone along outside of shins. Something else I get most nights is dead hands, especially little finger side. I'll be meeting with the nurse in a couple of weeks, so will mention it.

Thanks
