Ok so actually its more like just over 2 months. She mentioned at DX that she will likely put me on gliclazide if my levels arent under control. Am I able to refuse this as I read in various places that this is not a good choice for someone wanting to lose weight? What other questions do I need to ask? I know she wont check my feet as she made a big hoo-ha about telling me I need to do that myself. have my first retinal screening appointment soon too. What else? Any other tests I should be having? :(

She has to check your feet. You can check for ulcers etc but she needs to out an ultrasound on them to check the pulse . She should also do the test where you close your eyes and she touches your feet with a soft fibre to check that you have feeling in them

Thanks Pat. I got the distinct impression from the lengthy lecture that it was purely down to me to report anything with my feet. We'll see. Should I get to know y cholestrol levels and have BP done too? Weight? None of these have been checked as of yet :/

I would ask for your feet to be checked by someone else if she can't be bothered to check your feet as part of your annual review, if your gp surgery has a podiatrist that visits the practice ask to see them.

I saw the podiatrist last September. She was referring me for surgery n a bunion and organising some inserts for plantar fascitis. (sp) Heard nothing yet......think my surgery is useless by the looks of it lol

Chase it up with your surgery or local podiatry clinic, might just be a breakdown in communication somewhere along the line.

Going for the bloods today and follow up a week on Thursday. Think I have done well at getting it under control for the most part but still struggling to knock the beers on the head (only drink once a week) so my hba1c might still be high :/

Good thinking. Will mention it today. I got busy getting on with stuff and keep forgetting. 'Ooh, I'll ring tomorrow, see whats happening' then by the morning I have forgotten! Old age settin in hehe x

Had the bloods done. Apparently they are testing hba1c, kidney/liver function, cholesterol and one or two other things I cant remember :S

Hi. Sounds like your doc isn't planning to do all the right tests. He/she should be checking your feet, weight and discussing your results with you. Make sure you are told your HBa1c at least. Gliclazide only results in weight gain if you eat too many carbs. It stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin and that can make use of more carbs that you eat. What is your weight/BMI currently?

Weight is a national secret, but down by 25.5lbs over the last 3 months, another 6/7 stones off would be my (impossible?) dream!! BM! is 39.
