A lot of companies will give you a meter for free as they make their money selling the test strips. I would Google cost of these strips as that would be an important factor for me. Some come with all the bells and whistles but a lot depends on your budget. They all have to meet certain tolerances regarding accuracy but some can read a little higher or lower than some but none are completely reliable. Bit vague I guess so apologies if I've confused you even more lol !

I use MyLife Pura, but only because that's the one my doctors will give me test strips for, I have tried swapping to a different meter but as they will not supply me strips FOC I am still on the Pura, though I do find it to be a good meter compared to my first one given that needed to be coded.

Has anyone got the iphone meter, bgi star is it.?

I have the ibg star meter, it's great as a meter and small and compact, I have no problem getting the strips on prescription. Also I got the meter sent to me foc. I would recommend it for anyone with an iPhone or iPod and it works on the iPad as well.

At the time I looked into the cost of test strips I decided on the CareSens N as the lancets are £3.99 for 100 and the strips are £12.75 for 50.
I have been using this for about a year now and I have found it easy to use and not much blood is required to take a reading.
It has all the basic features I need such as 2 hour after meal reminder, marking readings as post meal and averages for pre, post and both for last 90 days, broken down into last 1,7,30,90 if I recall correctly.

There is software you can use on the PC to download readings from the meter (http://www.caresens.co.nz/page/software.aspx)

The following are the meter, usb lead to connect it to a PC and meter skins - all showing as £0.00

If you have to buy your own test strips the SD Code free meter is the cheapest to run at £6.
99 for 50 strips on Amazon

I have had problems with the accu giving me high readings on 2 meters so I switched to contour plus which tests 7 times and averages your results making it more accurate. Have to say I get the strips on prescription which is a plus

I use the Contour Bayer Contour USB but thinking of switching to the ibg star.

Never had a problem with getting strips issued by the Dr - so fortunately cost is not of concern for me. I am one of the lucky ones.

I have been using Lifescan and I find it reliable and the test strips are One touch. The meter is discreet and results come through in 5 seconds.
I am T1 and so it is important for me to have a good quality product.
I have just had a letter from my GP asking me to bring in my meter as THEIR preference is a different meter and different test strips. I am really furious as I think THEIR preference is based upon cost rather than patient care. So I plan on writing to my GP telling him that I am unhappy and feel uncomfortable having to make this change and I feel this change will put my life at risk. . they have also asked me to go in for an appointment to show me how to test . . I don't get it when I already know how to test as I have been doing so for 10 years five times a day. . I think they are going to say test less as that is cheaper too. Any thoughts.

Not a lot!
After reading a few posts on this subject I feel very lucky. I use the OneTouch ultra 2 and have no problem getting strips from my GP, even though they are not on the local authority's list. Just hope it lasts!

Hi, do you have an iPhone 4 or 5? I have a 5s but I'm not sure if ibg star do the attachments for the 5s. I also read that there's some sort of adapter - do you know anything about this?

Many thanks.

I use the Accu chek mobile, it's all in one, no test strips as it in a cassette and Automatic and the clicker is on the side. When visiting my Diabetes specialist she plugs it in to her PC and the results are there for her to see, absolutely brilliant!

The Codefree. Because it's cheap.

I usually test about 5x a day, so it works out at 69p/day. £22 ish a month.

Worth every penny.

Slightly off topic here, but why is the shop on this Website advertising Novopen 4 for sale at £23.99???
I have enough of these pens to open my own shop, you can get them on prescription or from your local hospital for nothing.
Is this a scam?

Brunneria - have you noticed the codes on the top of the Codefree strip box? If you can buy in modest bulk, it brings the price down further. I redeem them at the homehealth-UK.com website.

I have the iphone 4 and ipad 3 so it's compatible with both but to work on the iphone 5 or ipad 4 with lightning adapter you have to get a converter and I have tried on a 5 with cheap adapters and they don't work you need to get the apple adapter and that works
