"A new you in 42"

West Ham because that's who the teacher who did the football at primary school supported, and we played in their colours. Not the nearest team - that would have been Millwall but more than a little risky in those days ...

Hmmm, that figures.
Spot the scouser on the kop. He wears a blue shirt!
This reminds me of a time, in the late 70s, when I was living in London. My husband was a Preston North End supporter (somebody has to) and we went to watch them play one of the London clubs, maybe Fulham but I forget. Anyway, it was the first football match I'd ever been to. The club came on and I cheered like billyo! People around me scowled.

Somebody forgot to tell me PNE were in their away colours that day. I had cheered on the home team.

Oops ...

I just don't understand the West Ham song 'I'm forever blowing bubbles......just like my dreams they fade and die.' I've only been to Upton Park once and was right next to West Ham fans when they went 1-0 up. I muttered something about their dreams of winning this one would fade and die just like those blasted bubbles and hey presto, they did fade and die. It's an iconic song, but not really about winning is it. Now 'Marching on together' that's a great footie song. My heart beat echoed that rhythm when Beckford scored at Old Trafford.

I'm not sure what the origin of that song is, but it is fairly apt as a WHU fan. Lots of faded dreams. Mind you we virtually won the World Cup in '66 (ducks)! It was such a shame that they* were relegated under Harry and had to sell off such a promising team - Glen Johnson, Lampard, Joe Cole, Carrick etc. Of course if they were that good they wouldn't have got relegated!

* do you find it's always 'we won/were promoted' but 'they lost/were relegated'?

Yes definitely, it's particularly like that for me with Arsenal....We won/you lost when I speak to the family after matches. They hate it. They also hate it when I say things like 'Wow, I feel so privileged to have seen that goal live'......and it happens to have been Nicolas Anelka scoring after he had left Arsenal for Bolton. It was a great goal but the family didn't speak to me for days.

Anyone else exercising today?

Ah, someone who wnats to gett back to the reason behind this thread. As it happens I walked for an hour and three quarters round the local town followed by half an hour mowing what is laughably called a lawn in my back garden.

Ok, you ladies can now get back to discussing whatever it was you were discussing before I so rudely interrupted. ;)
