are protein shakes bad for type 1 diabetics, according to my fitness app im not eating enough protein for my recommended macronutrients and thought maybe i could replace my bran flakes in the morning with a protein shake but had read somewere that they are not good for diabetics.
anyone using them successfully?

I have them every other day, Just make sure you compensate with some fast acting insulin as many are very high in sugar.

thanks for the reply, have you been doing this long? is this because you are low on protein or are you trying to build muscle

Trying to build muscle mainly. I still try eat a good amount of 'real' protein such as eggs, chicken and red meat when i can. Im trying to get a bit bigger 'bulk up' as they say.

I use a make called matrix nutrition (loads on ebay) cheaper if you buy in quantity - 5kg tub of lean mass high protein and carbs (why you need the fast acting) and its about £40-50 but lasts 6 months easily.

im cutting back on carbs until i loose some fat around my stomach then hopefully try build a little more muscle, what sort of training are you doing? feel free to pm me be good to hear another diabetics experiences, advise and training

I tend to start most work days off with a Pea Protein based shake, that has 15 grams of protein 12 grams of carbs and 6 grams of fiber - I admit to jumping up the protein and carb load by adding extra soy milk and fruit/veggies to the mix so I get more then my 50% daily intake of vitamins n minerals (kind of over do it on the vitamin C a lot of the time) but its been working for me for the past 3 years in keeping things level.
