Zand and I are having a virtual country roadside picnic today as we rest and recharge our batteries. You are all welcome to join us. Bring your own food. What's on your plate?

hmm sounds nice, and the weather is going to be good for it, I'm coming!

ok ill bring some celery to dip in the cream cheese, some crustless quiche, cold chicken drumsticks (i ate the breast last night with my salad) some cheddar pre cubed, some ham cut from the bone and i may pass the m&s petrol station and grab some crispy bacon, i am leaving the little sausages though as the look like shrivelled up willies  if they have any livlife bread in morrisons today ill pick some up and id better bring some butter too, this may sound like a lot but I'm not sharing with anyone but the ants :greedy: unless anyone brings one of those barbecue thingies and bring meat to cook, then ill share :)

Oh I love ham off the bone, that's what Mum bought when I was growing up. Can't stand the processed stuff, but you've reminded me of something good from my childhood, think I'll have to visit the deli now on my way to the picnic and get myself some ham off the bone seeing as you won't share yours Andy. :p xx

i love to cook it and cut it off myself in thick slices, yum :)

Oh cool. What do you ask the butcher for? Dont say a leg of lamb, you know what I mean. xx

I have transferred this from another thread.

Well, this is interesting...it's going to have to be a 'knife and fork' picnic for me..I would like salad and tinned salmon and corned beef and cheese. A few different cheeses. Maybe some cheese and onion quiche too, but I don't like the pastry on the sides much so I would leave that. Chilled sparkling mineral water with a slice each of lemon and lime. Also strawberries, raspberries, grapes and a banana. Oh and lol ....some jelly might be nice.

The big shock here is that I really don't want crisps! I used to have at least 2 packs a day. Now of course tomorrow's picnic would be different I'm sure.
I envy the fact that you like eggs. I wish I did, it would make breakfast much easier for me.

We will get our jelly Zand, Bebo is bringing a freshly made trifle, I'll have some of that! xx

I've tried to make low carb trifle, the jelly and whipped cream is a no brainer of course, the custard is simply amazing when you make it yourself but i can't find a suitable sponge, i tried the lemon sponge from ewelinas blog (yum) its delicious by itself but dosent work in the trifle (Booooo)

Andy, my Dad was a butcher in the Army and his favourite joint was forerib which he called Crop. I can see him sitting there knawing on the bone trying to get in all the nooks and crannies, happy days. Do any butchers still sell it on the bone or is that silly ruling banning it still in force? x

Just use trifle sponge fingers Andy. Sometimes there are no substitutes and if you don't overdo it, I'm sure you're not going to cause yourself much damage. x

i find if you get to know the butcher and don't ask in front of people you can get whatever you want, I'm not sure about the ban but i was getting cows knuckles (well thats what i call them) throughout the ban no problem

yikes! that takes all the fun out of making things low carb lol, the whole point is to find low carb alternatives :)

Ah, so I want a packet of under the counter stuff, nudge nudge, wink, wink, like on League of Gentlemen. :playful:

I have discovered a local baker that does a really low GI loaf, so if you're bringing ham off the bone, add a bit of leaf salad, a side of tomatoes and I will be happy sitting in the sunshine!

Who needs to worry about carbs?

Oh you perfectionist, you. Don't have any bloody trifle then, you can go sit on the corner of the blanket with the ants and eat your jelly and cream and custard. :p x

I'm with you nosher on the carby bit, and I'd Love a bite of your bread, but bread bloats me like hell, so not worth it, well.. maybe a bite wouldn't harm..... xx

Yeh.... Andy....even I am having some trifle and you know my views on jelly!:)
Good on you Zand. Today is all about celebration, I didn't know you had an aversion to jelly? Well done for trying the beautiful trifle then, good girl. xx

I don't, I love it! But I do have an aversion to the artificial sweeteners etc in sugarfree jelly, maybe one day I will have some again, just not yet. My problem with sugar free jelly is that when I used to eat it, I was addicted to it and ate far too much.
