As it was a most beautiful and sunny day, I thought I would walk to my surgery to hand in my repeat prescription because my new meds would run out by Thursday.
The other thing on my mind would be to try and get an appointment with either of the doctors since my named one had left just before last christmas.
With all my good intentions I walked the couple of miles to the surgery. At the reception desk, I offered my prescription and asked if it was properly wrote out to my requirements, that achieved, I asked in a very polite manner if it was at all possible to get an appointment Wednesday or Thursday, she replied, 'that you will have to phone 8am on the morning', So then I got describing that my specialist insisted that I have a chat with my doctor to ensure that the doctor understood my condition. ' the doctor will be able to phone you to discuss your enquiry' she implied. I said that a phone conversation was not what I wanted, ' I get flustered and can't remember things' I said. 'Then you will have to phone up then' she said being no help whatsoever. 'I could be in work at that time' I said. 'Sorry' she replied, 'get someone to phone for you'. I then went into a lengthy explanation why the wife couldn't be relied on to phone for me. The receptionist looked at me as if she had won the battle and calmly said 'Sorry!'
I said thank you for some reason! I then exited the surgery, got my mobile out and promptly phoned the surgery.
You know the answer!

If it wasn't at my consultants insistence that I meet and give my GP the facts and inform him of my treatment, then I wouldn't be in this dilemma! I know that the consultant will update the surgery of my condition, but will they read it? On past experience, (misdiagnosis) I wouldn't have thought so!
I will phone up, Wednesday or Thursday, I will let you know

I walked home in frustration and I didn't enjoy the walk home! It was still beautiful and sunny!

There was no sympathy or co-operation, I wasn't nasty or demanding, just an appointment to let my named GP the facts about my rare condition. I wouldn't have bothered, if it was really up to me! Do these doctors want patients or are that over subscribed that they don't even know their patients! It is becoming impersonnel and instead of a doctors surgery, it is a business!

Then you try and ring at 8 am and all you get is the engaged tone, been there Nosher :banghead:

'You're doctor is on his tenth holiday of the year, will you see a locum?

a bit OT, but what happens if you have a high temp, stomach pains, all the normal Dr stuff. Is it still ring wed, thur at 8 or do get in same day or do you go to A&E?

Been there myself and so have many others I expect.

Things that just make you go hmmm..........................

at my surgery have to ring at 8.30 on the day and constantly engaged and when get thru, all appointments have gone
i now ask for the gp to ring me, and hey presto an appointment

u go to 'out of hours' or A & E at you local hospital!

I go down the telephone route I write down every thing I want to ask and then other questions that I think I will ask depending on the answers I get to the first questions if you know what I mean I find that I get a longer consultation (OR CONFRONTATION!!!! ) and I dont get as confused ( well no more than usual!!)

I hate my mobile, I only use it, as a phone or texting machine!

If family or friends want to talk, they text, only occasionally do they phone.
I'm sorta weird ye know!

Diabetic part of my repeat prescription is ordered on line !!!!! The rest is done auto at the chemist as they get a yearly script, but that's for my heart failure meds.
So I never get to see the Dr only the odd nurses ... If I am unwell I find my chemist is the best place to go.. At least they will see you .. Unlike the Dr who leave you in the waiting room without ever calling you in ... Even if you are early for your appointments !

So don't take it personal Nosher .. They are just (not) doing their job !

UKIP want to bring in £20 charge to see a doctor here! Bloody Tories in disguise!

Register with your gp to be an online patient then at the moment you can book appointments so easily.
You're online expressing your concerns about getting an appt, so why can't you go register to book appts on line? It's so easy!!!

I was ill last Sunday, and knew I wasn't desperate and got an appt with my senior Partner online no trouble at all.

If you can deliberate your treatment online then you are well capable ig registering as a patient who would lime to book appts online, prescriptions are available for a lot of Patients too, and tests results will be available in the furure...

Basically, if you can order from ebay ir Amazon, then use these skills to book your appointments.. Sorry... My Receptionist at my surgery in a morning on average sees or takes over a 100 calls.. Thats just one receptionist... We have 4 people answering calls etc... If you cango online to deluberate, then you can get yourself on line to book an appt.

In our Practice, online bookings... you will never have a problem..

I had a hypo (I had been suffering with dizziness which the doc just shrugged at. When I asked if it could be too much met with a low carb diet this was poopood. I then had a hypo. My hubbie called NHS direct and as I drifted in and out of consciousness the paramedic was sent. All was made ok with honey and I was told I was on too much met and needed to see doc next day. I rang in the morning and they refused to give me an appointment. I rang the hospital and I rang the practise manager and got an appointment surprisingly quickly! Lol! Ring the practise manager say I!

it just hammers the socioeconomically disadvantaged again, it's just a proposal that needs to get through the senate at this stage for a maybe start in 2015 or later.
However people are confused and have already stopped going to the Dr and the Dr's are sending out SMS and letters telling clients that it is still free.
there is no way we are going to keep the same level of health for a large segment of the population

I book all my appointments on line - it is the best thing ever! Our surgery is good too and I can usually get an appointment if I ring in the morning. The receptionists are friendly and helpful too which I gather is a rare thing!

The NHS is being dismantled because of political dogma! Profit first, health comes in at a very distant second!
We in this country are proud of the NHS, and it's practices! But, my god, look what they've done to it?
