Help! I have so much weight to lose

I really enjoy his site - well written articles and the man is just so sensible and rational, much more so than many other authors in the health/wellness arena.

I think I am probably half way to doing it now but I cheat a bit.

Well my son is home. He wasn't kidding about the sunburn and blisters....lots of massive ones on his back and front. Not sure how quickly they will heal. He got them when he went exploring on an island and couldn't find any sunscreen to buy there. He climbed down a rocky cliff on his own to a wonderful beach. I'm so glad I didn't know that was what he was doing at the time. He also left his phone in a taxi in Recife....which he was told was the roughest place he could choose to go to.....and where he was told 1 in 3 people get robbed. He didn't realise he had left it in the taxi until he tried to put a girls phone number into his phone (I didn't ask....I'm his Mum). She rang it and the taxi driver delivered it back to him, saying 'Oh I've had lots of fares since you.' And they all just left the phone on the seat!

I really don't know what I am going to do with these blisters, although I did ask advice from my GP yesterday. They just look so bad.

Zand get some alovera gel from Holland and Barrett . Its magical stuff , I have used it for years .
Ita great for healing.
Its great for sweat or nappy rash too.

Yes thanks, I've found some now. It's fine for most of his back and front, but I can't do anything about the huge blisters, they are the size of egg yolks. I'm feeling a bit down now.

Bet you're glad to see him! Minus the blisters of course!

Oh dear! Where are the blisters? On his body or his feet?

Don't worry Zand. He'll be ok, sleeping must be a problem. How about NHS helpline as it's the weekend or even A&E ?

Wow! That thing with the phone restores my faith in human nature :)
But those blisters - if they are extensive it's probably a good idea to get them checked, and some suitable pain meds prescribed :( Poor lad :(

Arnica cream is good for bruises, not sure about blisters though. He seems to have 'enjoyed' himself though, glad he's back safe.

Well, I did get advice by phone from our GP yesterday and she said that as long as they weren't infected he didn't need to be seen. I told her his description of the blisters and she said to keep them dry and only cover them with a dressing if they burst. She advised using calamine lotion when they start to itch. They are on his shoulders and top of his chest and back. The rest of him is just red. He did get some pain meds in Brazil, which do seem to be helping.

Yes he did enjoy himself, he met a Brazilian Arsenal supporter who knew all the songs. My son has promised to take him to a game if he ever gets to come to England. He spent some time with some Germans who kept singing our Mertesacker song to him....He partied with the Dutch, Americans and Mexicans. He met some people from France and El Salvador ( who just wanted to be there even though they weren't in it.) He has learnt a little more Portuguese. He met someone wearing a villa shirt and said 'you must be from England' but he was a Brazilian who just liked the colours of the Villa shirt.

Now he has 2 weeks at work and then another 2 weeks holiday in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria. Oh to be young!

we have just come back from tour de France land...Leyburn in north Yorkshire. We have been persuaded to go back next week end and have left the caravan there. We are trying to persuade the boys that it could be a once in a lifetime experience!

I will read back the thread later and respond if necessary:)

zand glad to hear your son had a good time in Brazil and is now home safe and well (apart from his blisters - hope they are better today). I bet you are relieved he is home.

Yes I am relieved he is home! - Although he said it was a lot safer than the media reported. His blisters are much better, there is only one which looks bad today, the rest have settled down nicely. He just didn't realise he had been burnt until next day. He also had a problem with dehydration because the tap water wasn't drinkable and hardly anywhere sold bottled water. So now he is safely home for a couple of weeks.

Keep trying to persuade them about next weekend, you might be right! I've just googled it 'cos I've never been there and yes it's looking really exciting with the tour de France ...they'll love it. You've even got me a bit interested in it now too. Have fun

The site is booked And we have left the caravan there so we are definitely going but it would nice if they came without winging! They are so different though youngest says I don't want to go cos I want to go out with my friend (luckily said friend is doing something else) and eldest said I don't want to go cos I have to revise for my French assignment! My husband teaches in key urn and he said the atmosphere is amazing and Yorkshire are certainly getting into the spirit. We will have fun!!

Well your youngest will now have something to do so that he won't miss his friend so much, so that's him sorted. Your eldest can take his French with him - we've done that a few times with French and German assignments! They'll love it, they just like complaining even more than anything else at that age. I join with you in saying.....You will have fun - all of you!:)

Not sure how to express this, but I need to try. I am not feeling too good at the moment, over the last 9 days I have had 4 shocks which have upset me. I have not been able to eat properly this week and haven't eaten anywhere near enough food. What I have eaten has been LCHF but I just haven't felt hungry often. When I did feel hungry it felt good to stay hungry. So I have had a battle with myself to eat anything at all. I no longer comfort eat, but comfort starving feels quite good. I also haven't drunk enough water, or walked enough. Pedro and I are on a break at the moment because he is getting on my nerves, so I won't be telling you any steps this week. Today when I drove to SW, I was a nervous wreck and jumped when a car started reversing as I was entering the car park. It wasn't a problem, we both had plenty of time to stop, but I felt shock again, even though it was a perfectly normal thing to happen. I am stressed because there are things I need to do, but I can't concentrate on doing them. I am walking slowly and speaking slowly. I feel like I felt when my Dad died, like a shell of a person trying to exist. So I suppose this is depression again. Some of you may be surprised by my weight today, I wasn't at all surprised, it's what always happens when I am stressed and don't eat and drink enough.

This week I have put on 3 pounds (and yes the rock was in the pocket)

Is that your normal depression response? Sounds more like extreme anxiety/stress response? Excess cortisol from flight/fight response can also cause weight gain.

I hope you can do something to calm your nerves as all this stress isn't good for you. Hope things look up for you soon, Zand.

Yes you are right Indy, it is mostly anxiety/stress. It's just today that I have felt that I am starting to become depressed as well. I would like 2 members of my family to have blood tests, that would help me no end, but they don't want to do this. I am going to pick out a few jobs that need doing and concentrate on those and not worry about what I can't manage to do. I did this yesterday and felt much better because I had achieved something.

@sanguine the Johnny Cash song this morning was a good thing for me to hear really because it made me cry and released a bit of tension. Thanks.
