Cheese

Me and hubby now have cheese every day. He has lost 3st now and really is now **** fir n healthy. Since adding cheese to me I have better stomach actions and my statin damaged muscles in legs are dramatically improved.
However, went to get jeans today from M&S and have gone down to a size 8... Not happy and need to find a way to put weight on.
Loss has all happened since adding fat in to my diet..I am a low to medium carber...

I read a Norweigan study a year or two ago, observational, where those who had nine or more servings of cheese per week had considerably less risk of heart disease than those who ate less cheese.
Great - as I probably eat about that much a week in various forms! I do like my cheese, and I don't seem to get any spikes from it either. :p

Just had an argument with a Type 2 who is adamant cheese is no good for you!! It is isnt it? Especially on the LCHF

I just wound up my Omni pod wearing bass player suggesting his PDM was interfering with my smart phone every time he boluses...
Point is, talk, listen discus what works for you.. But it don't work far all...

I'm V old school.. Cheese has always been in the "good food circle".
 
the only thing cheese has going for it is the taste, (like all things that are fattening), if you have a condition like type 2 the emphasise should be on healthy eating and not cobbled up junk food which is one way of describing cheese!

I disagree! I have lost far more weight eating LCHF, my skin is no longer dried out and I have far more energy. I eat cheese every day as part of my lunch and also in salads in the evenings several times a week. My bs has come down from 13 to 5.5-6.6 most of the time. I have also lost 2st 10lbs.

Though not the correct way IMHO!
Good cheese has flavour and for a diabetic, it is more importantly LOW CARB!. since lowering my carbs and uping my fats I have improved my blood glucose and cholesterol figures! Despite being high fat, if calories are controlled , chees does not need to be fattening!

Tell that to the French who eat bucket loads, especially the blue cheeses and the French come pretty high on the low cholesterol scale.
 
@greg from his record, got pre-D, learned the danger of carbs, Turned it around (went low carb), but doesn't seem to get the High(er) fat bit !

Is cheese fattening? If so, how do you explain the fact that the obesity rate in France is half of UKs?
 
i like a apple and cheese as a snack about 2oz thats all i love blue cheese ifind strong cheese and then you need less of it :)
 
if you're eating reasonable portions , no,;) but if you eat a few Kg/day probably yes:woot:!:):)
A normal portion seems to be about 35-40g that's what my dietitian says but it's also what you get served in a restaurant and at neighbours homes .Cheese isn't cheap either so the emphasis tends to be on quality not amount. If you eat cheese with your bread you don't get butter also.
The author of Why French Women writes here what she eats in a week (her cheese portion size she suggests is
1 1/2 oz. (shes writing for Americans, that's actually 42g )
But this is my local excellent but not slim cheesemonger. I'm just about to eat one of those little ' cabecou' de chevre for my lunch (with radishes, tomatoes and grainy bread)

The only bad fat is trans fat. Apparently (according to Dr Kendrick - The Great Cholesterol Con) trans fat is made by firing hydrogen atoms at ordinary unsaturated fat, it gets a bit more hydrogen and becomes saturated (with hydrogen) fat. (This process is called hydrogenation). It makes vegetable oil solid at room temp, just like animal fat is solid at room temp. The problem is that the type of chemical bond that is made is a "trans" bond, rather than the "cis" bond and the body is only designed to handle cis bonds. So margarine is a bad boy.

The amount of research evidence linking dietary fat to say heart disease is ... extensive/minuscule/non-existent. Please delete as applicable to your own personal faith system.

Well, since adding more fat into my diet, and yes the majority is cheese my triglycerides have remained very low....0.5 now, my hdl remains above normal ranges and most importantly my ldl is down to 2.7.
I've only added more fat in to my diet in last 6 weeks (i think) since Phoenix explained things so clearly to me.

I know cholesterol can take 6 months to change, but already my ldl is lower...

More cheese, madam?? Yes, please is what I say!
